Decent set of kitchen knives

Can someone help me find a decent set of kitchen knives, in a block or not, that will last for a while? I don't really know what I am looking for, other than good steak knives and a nice meat knife. I have a few komachi knives and a 20 yr old set of Saladmaster knives that I am using and my husband has decided we need to "grow up" with our knife selection. Any ideas? I see some on sale for Black Friday, but have no idea whether they are decent or not.

We chop veggies A LOT, are meat eaters (hence the steak knives), bake bread, etc...so the knives would be used for all that stuff. Anyone wanna help?? Thanks!

I would go with Henckels or Wusthof knives but be sure to get the hand forged blades, not the stamped blades which are their lower end knives.

I have the Henckels Pro S set and am quite happy with it. The santoku knife is great for chopping veggies but depending on the veg, I sometimes use a different knife in the set.

The Wusthof knives are really nice too, was leaning towards buying them but then I found a great deal on the Henckels set.

Look at Rada knives. They are made in Iowa, are very, very inexpensive and get excellent reviews. (Yes, I'm from Iowa) Most people question how good they are because of the price but once they try them they love them and order more.

Start with the little paring knife. Everybody loves them and if you don't you are only out $5 or $6.

huh never heard of them.. USA great price and steller reviews??? I would lik eto find the chefs knife at 8-10 inch blade if they have one

got a 12 pc. set in block of farverware at walmart fo $35

Last Spring I was asked by a friend to reccomend knives for his home kitchen. Although price was not an issue I reccomended these to him. There is no need to spend more.
Under $100.00 total from Amazon for chef’s knife, paring knife, bread knife, sharpener & sharpening steel. NO NEED TO SPEND MORE! I know many people who have a big block of expensive German or Japanese knives & they only use 2 or 3 & they are dull.Ib am a retired chef and a CIA graduate.

I have used Chicago Cutlery with great success.

I as skeptical but I got them as a wedding gift. Their modern looking set goes on sale alot.

I was originally considering super high end ( SHUN ) if I was going to be paying.

I got the much cheaper chicago set and I love it!
