Sam's Club Membership $100 Gift of Membership, get $40 Gift Card

Haha. I did this two years ago. Walmart is next door to Sam's Club where I live. I bought the membership gift cards and got $40 for each one, then went to Walmart and bought a single gift card with the total of all the gift cards combined. Take that gift card back to Sam's and buy more memberships and get more free money. I got $1000 in free money to spend at Walmart and Sam's by doing this multiple times.

When I tried last time, they wanted to go ahead and activate the membership without giving me the $100 GC. The cashier claimed the person just needed to come to the store and get their picture taken and the membership would be setup. I had to get a manager involved to get the prepaid membership GC.

That said, I wonder if they use that option to avoid people milking this deal like before.

That's pretty awesome! The last time this deal was on, I bought enough gift of membership cards to get the free $25 gift cards that equaled the price of a PS3 bundle being sold at Walmart next door. The $100 gift of membership cards were easily consumed within the next couple months on diapers and formula. It was a great deal until Sam's club caught on and limited one person to one $100 gift of membership purchase only.

Not sure; I don't have membership there. I use the free ones from BJs. I get more than enough free trial mailings to never have to pay

Can confirm this worked great a couple years ago. The $100 "Gift of Membership" was just a Sam's Club gift card that was *supposed* to be used for activating a new membership. But many went to Walmart (along with the bonus $25 gift card) and purchased Walmart gift cards. Consolidating several Sam's Club gift cards into 1 Walmart gift card was allowed. Don't know if they've changed now.

So, with this the $100 Gift Of Membership, it is assumed that someone has to start a new membership?

But, wait... Does a new membership cost $100 in this club?

Some questions:

(1) When I go check-out with these $100 Gift of Membership gift cards, do I go to
a regular check-out counter?

(2) Will the cashier automatically give me the $40 gift card or will I have to ask for it?

(3) Am I correct in assuming that I can take the $100 and $40 cards and spend immediately?
(i.e. go back inside and buy several cases of Heineken beer and just pay the difference?)

(4) What's to stop me from buying ten $100 Gift of Membership cards and receive
ten $40 gift cards? ($400 total) Even if it's only 1 per transaction, I can just hang around
Sam's Club and make multiple transactions, no?
