It's all about the right tool for the job. When I was doing video editing, I would have skeeted at the chance to use one..or even two of these. I don't like the standard ratio screens that are just bigger. It's uncomfortable to constantly look up and down and side to side to find what you're looking for. In Premiere (or FCP), I would usually set up two screens side by side with a video window in each and a continuous timeline stretched all the way from left to right across both screens and it worked great..except for the bezel. Honestly, if they came out with a screen that was 4,000x1,200, I'd buy it for that purpose.

For me, it's just more comfortable to scan left and right than UDLR. Nothing is silly if it works better for someone.

Would this work on a ASUS K55A Intel Core i5 3210M /HD4000 , no graphics card 8gb ram?

if I connect my laptop to this 29'' monitor, would i be getting the 2560x1080p display I want?

That is one WIDE screen monitor.
It's got a USB 3.0 hub too.
If you don't mind losing the extra res on the bottom/top, this is a great monitor.
