Mine was refurbished, basically looked brand new and I couldn't tell the difference. They don't specify what shipping they use on there but they sent me a tracking number and it was 3 day UPS (it was free shipping, they don't give you an option so they might use other types of shipping as well). Personally, I would stay away from scratch and dent but from what I read in the last Lenovo outlet thread a lot of people were saying it was very small stuff, but again YMMV and I wouldn't risk it.
I've bought a number of laptops from the Lenovo Outlet- Refurbished, Scratch & Dent, and new. Had some minor problems with a couple, but overall, very good quality. A number of the ones that were listed as scratch and dent, I couldn't find a single thing wrong with them.
It's a decent deal. Also to the person who was talking about power constraints, a lot of the i3s and i5s use the same wattage.
It has a fast processor for a laptop, the memory is at a slower clock than some other deals, the hard drive is not very big and for a 14' laptop its a bit on the heavy side. I wouldn't pay more than $400 for this even if it wasn't black friday.
You cannot ever, ever, ever compare a refurb with a new one. It's apples and oranges. You've got to compare to any other similarly-spec'd laptop that's new, and you simply won't find one at this price at the moment. Refurbs normally are 20-40% lower in price than new anyway.
Agreed. I got an ivy I5 refurb for less, but that's not a good comparison. This is a good deal
I think you'd want a Sandy Bridge i5 to be closer to $300 before calling it a good deal, to be honest. Not that this was a bad deal, but for example I posted a laptop last night that was $399 with an i3 (Sandy Bridge) + 128GB SSD. Sandy Bridge i5 + regular HDD should definitely be under $350 (and even then, much closer to $300) before I bite. Otherwise, with the deals on i5 Ivy Bridge laptops, as well as larger HD's and RAM capacities, I think the smart money is on getting something newer as opposed to these pedestrian Sandy Bridge i5 models.
