Pretty much anything but OCZ is good for SSD. OCZ makes horrible SSD's. My only dead SSD out 7 is a Vertex.

Yet somehow, inexplicably, the OCZ Vertex 4 is the 3rd highest rated SSD on Amazon (just below the Samsung 830 and Curcial M4 in terms of overall rating):

I agree OCZ SSDs are terrible, I had two Vertex and both was problematic. Their customer service terrible as well, they denied to change the drives (they told my new Dell laptop is the crap). Of course, ha ha, my Dell still working with Samsung SSD without a single problem...

When these people say "terrible", they mean "terrible" in comparison. The reality WAS like a 10-15% return rate on the worst OCZ drives compared to around 1-3% average for other manufacturers. So that's like a 5x relative failure rate. There are no statistics (that I know of) for post-firmware-fix OCZ Agility 3/Vertex 3 drive return rates, but based on word of mouth they seem vastly reduced and possibly even in line with other drives. However, people still avoid them since they once had issues.

I'd like to throw out I've been running a Vertex 2 for well over a year without a single issue as some anecdotal evidence contrary to the popular anti-OCZ opinion.

my vertex 3 is rock solid...do firmware upgrades when you get this drive and you should be good. this is a good deal on this drive

at least a good price. I have had this drive for about a year and no problems with it and it's very fast (compared to my old HDD at least). I'm looking to upgrade though but not many good BF deals for SSDs that I've seen. I don't want to spend more than about $50.

How's this in terms of speed compared to the Hyper X that's usually on sale for $60/$65?

I had a Vertex 3 and was freezing every 10 minutes for 1 minute. The replacement drive did the same, so I sold and thanks, but never again. Vertex 2 was better drive with less disturbing freezing issue (could not come back from sleeping state). Crucial and Samsung SSDs are the best drives!
