No, the eSATA ports on computers cannot be connected to each other. You can use the Ethernet ports to make the connection and transfer, just connect an Ethernet cable between the two computers, and then set the folders you want to share. If the two computers are already connected to a network - like on a switch or home router, then you are already connected. You can use a special USB cable - it has a circuit between the cable connectors to make the USB ports talk to each other correctly (USB was not designed for this, hence the special cable). Here is one listed on the Fry's Electronics website: http://www.frys.com/product/5706492 IOGEAR GCS661U USB Laptop KVM Switch with File Transfer Other stores like Best Buy will have similar devices, depending on what is in stock (retail stores) or will have them available online. You can print out the Fry's page above and show it to store personnel to help you describe what you are looking for. You can also use a portable hard drive or an external hard drive; while more expensive, once you are finished transferring files you can use that hard drive for backup purposes. For $9
which is 80plus certified and got good reviews. But apparently doesn't include a darn power cord, grr... Or if you hate rebates for $44.95 shipped http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6817371034 but also no power cord, I guess that's "green". But it is 80plus bronze. Anyway both of those are a step up Antec's quality tiers. BIG OOPS: Didn't see the rebate on the Basiq that brought it down to *24.95* sorry early morning :p Yeah it should be fine. Thanks all for the help. I'm very satisfied with my new system.
Core i5 2500k & Gigabyte P67A-UD3 - $280 Corsair 4gb ddr3 1333 1.5v - $30 LG dvd burner sata - $17 Corsair H50 (used) - $45 After selling my old core2duo cpu/board and ddr2 ram, my net expense was about $175. Very reasonable upgrade cost. I remember spending $2k on a 486dx2 a long while ago. Eventually I'll replace my 9800gtx+ with a 6850. |

You might want to talk to Gigabyte on that. Here is their on-line email page:

Hey guys, would you critique this build I've got going? Nothing is purchased yet.
In fact, still need a couple pieces such as the CASE, PSU, and HDD. I just want to know that everything works. I always go for a second opinion. So far, I've got: CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6819103727 GPU: GIGABYTE GV-N460OC-1GI GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6814125333 RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6820226092 MB : ASRock 870 EXTREME3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6813157198 The purpose is a gaming comp for SC2 on high/ultra settings. Also, watching movies, etc. Not to mention some coding, but not too heavy. I already have a CD/DVD drive. So, once again, I'm in need of recommendations of a CASE, PSU, and a HDD. Also, if I should swap any of these parts out, let me know. Thanks! Last edited by roger2016; 01-18-2011 at 05:55 PM.. |
