Ya, that's why you NEVER read the book first. The books always contain more details and ruin the movie, but the movie will never ruin the book.

It depends on what you want. I always choose to read the books first before I watched the movies, because I'm really interested in the story and would like to understand the story the way the author wanted.

The fact that kids like the movie is mostly related to how big it was hyped everywhere, and because the hype was targeted for them.


Having said that, I don't blame you if you think the story doesn't make sense after watching the movie. It was a pretty poor visualization of the content of the book. I still enjoyed the movie for what it is, though.


Personally I don't think the series are meant for kids at all. It's about kids, of course, but the message inside is way deeper than kids that age can get.
