I couldn't fight the urge and bought one even though I already have enough AR;s
Anyone know of a cheaper place than Amazon to buy the side rail adapters? I put a light on all/most of my weapons and to mount a vertical grip (am going magpul afg) need 2 rail adapters at almost $50 for both :0( |

Still too much. I just purchased both the complete lower and complete upper with free float quad rails for under $665.00 (includes DROS but no tax) with MBUS sights.
This setup with CA tax and dros will run over $800. Do your homework and you can easily save $135+ bucks. Get the New Frontier Lower usually runs around $120+$25 Dros = $150 The complete upper you can get from PSA $319 + $120 for BCG = $440 Mbus sights = $75 or less. |

Or you can build a rock river yourself. Lower $135, Parkts kit, $60, complete CL upper $500, butt stock $65 for a total of $760 OTD from a RRA dealer at the Lima Ohio Gunshow(100% RRA parts). I have 4 of these currently and they are a frickin tac drivers. But they have no rails and a generic RRA buttstock. I snagged two of these Troys(wait list). I like the fact that these are 1in7 twist and I am eager to get one to the range to see the groups at 100yds. I have some PMC 62gr set aside for them

Called my local upstate NY dicks, they have 2 in stock.. Im interested mostly in home defense and as a learning tool at the local gun range/shooting "zombie targets" out back on my 15 acres private property. I know next to nothing on rifle's but would like to purchase one "while I still can" and educate myself fully on the machine. Advice? NY law concerns? Ive never applied before, but have no concerns about FBI/FFL checking stuff... also 799 is still a decent chunk of change for me, I figured worst case scenario I could resell it and make a few bucks if its not for me? Bad idea?

Yes they will both go bang, but there will be a notable difference in quality, feel, and craftsmanship. If you want a 1 to 1 price comparison use the same exact troy rail, same rear battle sight (extremely popular BTW), and same stock, and same muzzle end. Then see where the price lands. Not to mention if you dont have the proper tools to install a true free-float rail, then you have to either buy them or pay a smith to install it. Last edited by ucbdeals; 11-21-2012 at 01:01 PM.. |

Bought one today. $799.98 + $10 NICS fee, no tax, plus $20 in Dick's rewards.
The Troy furniture/extras included in this carbine are (and their current prices at Midway): Troy BattleSight Rear Folding $120 Troy Medieval Flash Hider $44 Troy Alpha Battle Rail W/ Integral Front Sight $260 Troy Enhanced Battle Ax CQB Grip $20 Troy Enhanced Trigger Guard $25 Troy Battle Ax CQB Buttstock $125 Total: $594 For $650 locally, I can find several gun stores offering the same entry-level AR build, usually a Surplus Arms & Ammo upper/lower with Magpul MOE furniture. Or you can pick up a S&W M&P15 Sport for the same price, which comes with generic furniture and is missing some typical features (forward assist, dust cover). For $799, you're getting an AR that's built better than your typical entry level options, and it includes $600 in Troy upgrades. This is a no-brainer if you're in the market for an AR under $1000. The other options in the same price range are the Colt 6920 for $999 or Walmart's Black Friday Sig M400 for $867. Not only are both options more money, but you're not getting any high-end furniture on either one. Last edited by p0tempkin; 11-21-2012 at 01:53 PM.. |

If it was me, I would go with the Troy. Save $100 and no dealing with a rebate. |
