Employee Benefits am I paying too much
I need some help with my expenses and I am thinking of thinking of getting rid of my deductions. Basically, it would only be for about a year. possible two.
I don't know what information to provide, but I am 33, single, and make about 75K a year, plus occasionally OT when available.
My bi-weekly deductions are as follows:
$80 for health-care
$19 for optional union dues
$30 for long term care insurance
$26 for dental/vision
$38 for HSA
8% Roth matched up to 5%.
I also have a personal injury case that should settle sometime next year. It won't be for much, but will help.
My expense are mortgage, car note (24K left), student loans (60-70K, extended plan), credit cards (15k), and household expenses.
My plan is to pay of credit cards by end of next year, if not sooner. I think it is very likely with PI case, OT, and cutting deductions/expenses. Then after that take money from credit card payments towards car note and pay that off ASAP.
So with my deductions I am thinking of cutting health insurance in half to high deductible plan as I am generally health and rarely go. Plus, it includes preventative dental, so cutting dental. Cut HSA as while I use it, next year I don't see any major needs just contacts and an occasional DR visit. So at most $200 in that next year. Possibly get rid of LTC insurance as I am 33. Drop Roth to 5% matching, and drop union dues.
Some things in foreseeable future, girlfriend will move in sometime next year, engagement ring, etc.....
Thanks any help appreciated.
