The Official Car Talk Thread

I suppose can continue the conversation from the Funniest Pics thread here, along with any other car talk..

Quote from Jabbit :
The SLS is pretty nuts, I have seen a couple on the streets and they sounds almost musclecar-ish. I also saw an Enzo at the car show (it was actually Cars & Coffee in Irvine CA which is pretty well known). I would like an older M3, the last one that had the inline-6. I have never been in one but they seem like they would be a lot of fun. Not really practical in New England though.

We should start an official "Car Chat" thread.
That enzo is awesome. I spotted a 599GTO at F1 as well. There were a few people leaning up against it taking pics. If I was the owner I'd have been pissed.

BMW is bringing back the straight 6 for 2013 (or maybe 14).. They're doing a twin turbo version in the name of fuel economy. There was rumor about there being a third turbo in there too.

Rick Hendrick just paid $825,000 for a 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat in a charity auction.
What an amazing car, would love to test drive one. I think I like the Charger Hellcat more, though. Top speed of 204.

I would take the looks of the Challenger over the Charger. I wouldn't think there is a much different top speed between the two anyway and the Challenger has a faster 1/4 mile time I believe which is more usable than a 200mph top speed.

In any case I don't think I will ever be paying $825,000, even if it were for a package deal for both. laugh out loud

This one is still coming up tonight in the auction. '59 Cadillac that was owned by Hank Williams Jr.

Having been owned by Hank Junior doesn't interest me but man would I love to have one of these. I think these go for a boatload of cash anyway so it will be interesting to see if the Hank Jr tie adds anything to the value.

I believe the Challenger was NHRA-certified at 11.7 with stock tires, 11.2 with drag radials (street legal), and 10.8 with slicks. Charger did it in 11.0 on "street tires" so I'm guessing drag radials. Charger is lighter and has less drag, which I'm guessing helped. But yeah either way, they are both absolutely loony for $60k.

When the WRX first came out, it had the highest (by far) % rate of single-car accidents for a couple years. People just didn't know what they were getting themselves into. I think the Hellcat models might do the same thing. I hope they drop that engine into a Grand Cherokee and a Ram.

So thanks to the "Test Drive Thread" in Hot Deals, I've had some great drives lately. Spent a couple days with a BMW i3. Fun little car. Right now I've got a Lincoln MKC. You want to talk about excess? This car/crossover has a ridiculous amount of gadgets/tech. Pretty neat stuff but I would never pay $45k for one.

Speaking of excess, I saw the Rolls Royce Wraith on Top Gear recently. At first glance I loved the fiber-optics in the headliner arranged to look like a star-filled sky.

Gotta love it. Then I realized I could just lay down in the back of my rusty pickup and see the real thing.

Yeah but you can pick a date in history and they will recreate the star pattern exactly as it was that day! AND! They can come to your estate, cut down a tree, make your interior out of it. I think that is pretty wild.

It is pretty awesome. If I could afford that kind of excess I would probably be all over that. laugh out loud

That looks sweet. Is this a production model, or just a concept?
That is a 2016 production model. No details on engine yet,

I've had my eye on some e36 M3s, that car is on my short list. Never owned a BMW so I'd like to try it. I think I'd be happy with a e46 330 too. I have no issue working on cars myself, but I'm not inclined to do timing belts/water pumps/clutches, things like that. I've done full suspension swaps, brakes, all kinds of stuff like that.

First gen CTS-V used the C5 Z06 engine (5.7L) then swapped over to the C6 Corvette engine. But yeah they are basically a 4 door Corvette.
The E36 M3 and the E46 330 are both very wrench friendly. I wish I never sold my E36 M3 and glad that I got rid of both my E46 M3s.

You'll find great prices on the 330, but the E36 M3 market is ridiculous. Sellers are either very unreasonable or people are trying to sell you junk. It's the only reason I haven't picked one up again.

Let me know if you decide to go the BMW route. I've owned like 7 of them and on the forums daily.

Since most of the wrecks that have been posted have been exotic sports cars. Here could be the first wreck involving a new Lexus NX300h.

Anyone here ever owned a Volvo S60R or V70R? Maybe looking at buying a V70R...

If only the world of Hot Wheels cars and my childhood imagination had turned out to be reality.
