Holy smokes. CPU Comp 811? My first generation i3 is around 2000. I think I'll pass(mark) on this...

DO NOT assume that this will run Netflix. Please do your research. The E2-1800 is the same performance as the E-450 (+/- a couple %), and the E-450 definitely couldn't play Netflix HD as of last year (haven't been following closely), and they won't be able to until Netflix gets proper hardware acceleration. If you 100% definitely want Netflix 1080p playback, get a Celeron laptop- the CPU has enough horsepower to play Netflix, or any 1080p with the CPU, and its able to HW accelerate 1080p video as well. E-450 can indeed do HW acceleration for 1080p.. but again, its no use until Netflix properly supports HWA.
Otherwise though, it gets good battery life, so that's a plus. Basically, consider it a 15" netbook- it'll do any 1080p HW accelerated video, office programs, Skype (I'm assuming it has a webcam), etc. I personally wouldn't use one as a college student, as there's a RAM limit (4GB, right? - not enough if that's the case), and the CPU just isn't fast enough to make it feel snappy, even with a SSD. (OT Rant- idiots that think an SSD can make a netbook fast.. doesn't work that way. I have an SSD and my 2.1ghz i3, Samsung 830,and 8GB RAM feel sluggish on occasion when I have it capped at 800mhz max. Even with max at 1.2ghz, yes, its pretty snappy. 1.6 or 2.1, wicked fast.) |

The Folks who TD like me find that most folks won't need the DVD. 320GB is Huge for 99% of the folks. You can make the 2GB a 4GB system for $10 if you find you need it. If you find the vastly weaker Netbook Processor does not fly you are stuck. You are not STUCK with anything on the others. If it was not for other sales, this would be an OK deal. But not in comparison. But the Celeron is about as Fast as my 5yr old laptop which is actually still not too bad for normal use. The Celeron blows the doors off the E2-1800, which just takes it too low on the performance chart for me to be comfortable with it. |
