This is a STAPLES IN-STORE ONLY DEAL.

Staples has a $100 off coupon (multiple use) on any Windows 8 laptop (with some minor exclusions) that they released today via print ads and email. This coupon says it is valid only on 11/21/2012 but it actually works TODAY and will work tomorrow as well. I know this because I just bought the laptop for $250 not an hour ago from my local Staples (Renton, WA) using the printout of the attachment.

A scan of the $100 off coupon is attached here (courtesy of a member from a competing and overweight deal site):

Right now, there is also a $100 off discount on the same laptop in-store. Combined with the coupon, that makes it $200 off the original price of $449!

Deal Summary
+ $450 Samsung Series 3 NP355E5C-A01US 15.6" Laptop
- $100 Staples In-Store Instant Discount
- $100 Staples In-Store Coupon (see attachment)
------------
$250 plus applicable tax

In my opinion, this is better than the Newegg Asus X501A or the Best Buy X401A laptop deals, both of which are for the same price ($250), since the Samsung laptop comes with an optical drive.

EDIT: The ASUS X501 deal has only 2GB RAM and 320GB HD and NO optical drive vs. 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, optical drive for the Samsung. So in my opinion, that more than makes up for the underperformance of the AMD CPU compared to the B820 Celeron in the Asus. Make your buying decision accordingly).

Laptop specs summary
AMD Dual Core E2-1800 Accelerated 1.7GHz 1MB Cache Processor
4GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory, Expandable to 8GB
500GB 5400RPM SATA2 Hard Drive
15.6" HD LED Display (1366 x 768)
Windows 8

it's very cheap, but the performance is in line with what you pay, 7" netbooks have better processors than this lol

I've been charged with getting my mom a laptop for her for Christmas this year. She doesn't need anything fancy, but the processor has me a little wary.

Will this handle windows 8 smoothly? Is it a resource hog? (never ran it before) This will stream videos/netflix without a hitch I'm assuming? Thanks for the help!

And thanks for the heads up OP, this might be a good option for me!

Here's a comparison of the AMD E2-1800 processor with the Celeron B820 processor found in the Newegg deal (http://slickdeals.net/f/5539230-ASUS-X501A-WH01-Notebook-Windows-8-Intel-Celeron-B820-250-FS-Newegg?v=1). The Celeron beats the AMD in performance but keep in mind that the Samsung has 4GB DDR3 vs. 2GB DDR3 for the Asus and it also has a bigger hard drive (500 GB vs. 320GB) AND an optical drive (which the Asus doesn't have).

Give the dude a break. Not everyone needs everything. It's got usb 3.0, HDMI, optical drive, decent specs for something used for just general stuff and someone on a budget.

I'm not interested in the deal but people talking about comparing it to a netbook??? Maybe they need the tons of stuff that won't be on a netbook. Sure the processor is low end and the unit isn't high end and maybe they could find something quite a bit better for only a little more. The fact is, they might not have it and this might be exactly what they were looking for. They were nice enough to come here and share. For many, it's not their cup of tea...fine...Leave your feedback and go on your way
