This is a STAPLES IN-STORE ONLY DEAL.

Staples has a $100 off coupon (multiple use) on any Windows 8 laptop (with some minor exclusions) that they released today via print ads and email. This coupon says it is valid only on 11/21/2012 but it actually works TODAY and will work tomorrow as well. I know this because I just bought the laptop for $250 not an hour ago from my local Staples (Renton, WA) using the printout of the attachment.

A scan of the $100 off coupon is attached here (courtesy of a member from a competing and overweight deal site):

Right now, there is also a $100 off discount on the same laptop in-store. Combined with the coupon, that makes it $200 off the original price of $449!

Deal Summary
+ $450 Samsung Series 3 NP355E5C-A01US 15.6" Laptop
- $100 Staples In-Store Instant Discount
- $100 Staples In-Store Coupon (see attachment)
------------
$250 plus applicable tax

In my opinion, this is better than the Newegg Asus X501A or the Best Buy X401A laptop deals, both of which are for the same price ($250), since the Samsung laptop comes with an optical drive.

EDIT: The ASUS X501 deal has only 2GB RAM and 320GB HD and NO optical drive vs. 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, optical drive for the Samsung. So in my opinion, that more than makes up for the underperformance of the AMD CPU compared to the B820 Celeron in the Asus. Make your buying decision accordingly).

Laptop specs summary
AMD Dual Core E2-1800 Accelerated 1.7GHz 1MB Cache Processor
4GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory, Expandable to 8GB
500GB 5400RPM SATA2 Hard Drive
15.6" HD LED Display (1366 x 768)
Windows 8

that's the thing. I already know I'm not going to make the doorbuster. the ones I'm looking at are around that price with almost the same specs

bigger screen, bigger hard drive, $20 cheaper (if I can apply the staples coupon)

But, if you are considering this laptop, then surely, you can go one lower and get the x401A from either sears or kmart? It has a 2-GB ram but is priced at $220. You can easily upgrade ram to 6GB by buying one stick for less than 10$. the B830 celeron processor still trounces the E2-1800 and it's not as if E2 comes with great graphics performance to make up for its lack of cpu horsepower either

DO NOT assume that this will run Netflix. Please do your research. The E2-1800 is the same performance as the E-450 (+/- a couple %), and the E-450 definitely couldn't play Netflix HD as of last year (haven't been following closely), and they won't be able to until Netflix gets proper hardware acceleration. If you 100% definitely want Netflix 1080p playback, get a Celeron laptop- the CPU has enough horsepower to play Netflix, or any 1080p with the CPU, and its able to HW accelerate 1080p video as well. E-450 can indeed do HW acceleration for 1080p.. but again, its no use until Netflix properly supports HWA.

Otherwise though, it gets good battery life, so that's a plus. Basically, consider it a 15" netbook- it'll do any 1080p HW accelerated video, office programs, Skype (I'm assuming it has a webcam), etc. I personally wouldn't use one as a college student, as there's a RAM limit (4GB, right? - not enough if that's the case), and the CPU just isn't fast enough to make it feel snappy, even with a SSD. (OT Rant- idiots that think an SSD can make a netbook fast.. doesn't work that way. I have an SSD and my 2.1ghz i3, Samsung 830,and 8GB RAM feel sluggish on occasion when I have it capped at 800mhz max. Even with max at 1.2ghz, yes, its pretty snappy. 1.6 or 2.1, wicked fast.)

There are original Core Duos that would outperform this CPU so I don't know what the OP is smoking.

I bought a laptop from newegg for $320 and there weren't taxes as opposed to staples so the difference was something like $50 for a laptop that'll be useful *long* after this thing can't even load common websites without chugging. This CPU is useless.

I'm sorry I couldnt find a direct link, but it is listed in both sears and kmart blackfriday ads. You can find the total list here in this excel sheet though

Look in this thread to find better for the same price.
The Folks who TD like me find that most folks won't need the DVD.
320GB is Huge for 99% of the folks.
You can make the 2GB a 4GB system for $10 if you find you need it.

If you find the vastly weaker Netbook Processor does not fly you are stuck.
You are not STUCK with anything on the others.

If it was not for other sales, this would be an OK deal.
But not in comparison.

But the Celeron is about as Fast as my 5yr old laptop which is actually still not too bad for normal use.

The Celeron blows the doors off the E2-1800, which just takes it too low on the performance chart for me to be comfortable with it.

i got one today and my friend got one today. NO ONE was in Staples at all. it was eery, they had multiple laptops for pretty darn cheap.

for the basics (web browsing, word processing, playing DL'd movies) this laptop is great for the price. looks pretty awesome with the matte black finish too.
