Max size drill bit on one is 3/8" vs 1/2" on other. Same bits just larger chuck and generally more powerful.

The ds12dvf3 and ds18dvf3 are nicad, while the ds18dsal and kc18dhl are lithium ion. Lithium ion is newer, but some people swear by nicad. This deal gives you a choice. The ds18dvf3, with the bitset, is only $56, while the ds18dsal with the same bitset is $87. Both are slick, slick, slick, but I think I'd go with the ds12dvf3, ds18dvf3 and the bitset for $85, which is less than the single ds18dsal with bitset for $87! It's just personal preference. All of these drills have incredibly good reviews.

The 1/2" is more powerful I guess. I understood the bits are the same. I can use the bits I used on 3/8 on the 1/2 too.
