Contrast ratio's are completely overrated, meaningless #'s...
I agree that these #'s are flim-flam, but if a company gets to make up a # to try & pimp their product, why use such a small #? They could use a # in the millions. Are there people looking for low CR ratios? If a car company could advertise any mpg they wanted, with no accountability, would they give a low #? Just seems odd.
First off... don't listen to the other person who stated this.
It is not a typo and the blacks will not be great. This is 7 year old tec.... and that is why it is so cheap.
Personally... we have seen some decent sets sell for like 5 bills.... I would pay a 130 more.
About 5 years ago I purchased a cheap 42" with this tec.... sold it at a loss two years later and now I am pretty happy with my LED.
Most contrast ratios are inflated/fictionalized because many companies use different ways of measuring them. Also, I have not seen an LCD set in the past 3 years that has not had good blacks after being properly calibrated. The problem is that most people don't know how or don't have the means to calibrate their TVs. Panels are only made by a handful of companies, and most are very similar. If you calibrate the TV right, it'll look great.
As far as this deal goes though, its not that great in my opinion. Its a no-name LCD (which still probably has a samsung or similar panel in it, but probably has much cheaper boards), which means you'll probably need an extended warranty. In addition, the price is right around sale prices for low-end 46-47" TVs, and its after rebate at that. There is even going to be a $100 cheaper 46" set on BF (tomorrow at midnight). I would hold off unless you really want a 50" right now.

ugly TV, the westinghouse was a better deal with no rebates.
FWIW Taking into consideration the brand as a whole, Westinghouse had the worst reliability ratings in the latest issue of Conusmer reports. The Seiki brand is not mentioned as I suspect they are a fairly new brand? On a related note I was surprised to see Sanyo listed as one of the most reliable brands.
