THANK YOU!!!! I ordered this 3 days ago in anticipation of their price drop. Just called, and they just refunded the difference.
B&H has the largest stock of 830's I could find which is why I chose to buy it from them. They have well over 1200 units of the 830 256gb as of 3 days ago. Last edited by yourameh; 11-21-2012 at 07:20 AM.. |

I too missed the HUGE Amazon $150 deal on this drive because I was stupid. Since then I researched the shit out of this thing and been hunting like madd. I can assure you that once stock is out, STOCK IS OUT at ALL retailers. It's fully discontinued from Samsung. MacMall had some for $167, ran out, then transferred more over from their partner store. They'll run out soon. At $150, this drive is unstoppable and usually sells out in about an hour or less. If you can get this for $169 no tax, free shipping, it's a really good deal. $150 with CA tax is already $162 so it's within $10 of minimum sale price. Of the four places this drive has gone for $150, only one of them (eBay) was tax free (if you're in CA) and shipping free. Good luck! Last edited by yourameh; 11-21-2012 at 07:34 AM.. |

The 840 is bare minimum for simple consumers. It is however a small bit faster at some things... Last edited by yourameh; 11-21-2012 at 08:07 AM.. |

The 830 is an expensive drive to produce in today's world. The memory in the 840 is the same stuff used in cell phones which they make hundreds of millions of for themselves, apple, and almost all other mobile companies. So economy of scale wins out. We don't know how reliable the 840 will be, but it doesn't look good on paper. The 830 is completely tried and true. oone of the most reliable SSD ever made so far. And it happens to be near the top in performance compared to last Gen drives (which are not much slower than the newest stuff). BTW, 256gb SSD's tend to be the fastest and not much worse reliability than bigger drives. This is due to the space/number of chips it's running. The 840pro is the only upgrade alternative to the 830 and the pro sells for a $100 premium over the 830. |
