about the warranty...from Newegg.com chat:
Emma: Hi, my name is Emma. How may I help you? Me: want to order: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6822148844 if i add the "3-year extended warranty" is that 3 years after the 2 years that comes with the drive from the manufacturer is up? so 5 years total? Emma: I'd be happy to help you with that. May I please have a moment to look into this for you? Me: sure Emma: Thank you very much for waiting, Allen. Please note that the extended warranty begins after the manufacturer warranty ends. Me: so that would be 5 years total? just want to make sure...the 2 year manufacturer warranty followed by the 3 year extended? Emma: Yes, that is right. Me: thank you very much |

The same thing's happened with Western Digital, Hitachi (after IBM's "Deathstar" incident, they went on to make top quality 2TB drives), and even Maxtor going further back. The hate is cyclical and just alternates between all the manufacturers every 5 years or so, and taints that manufacturer's offerings well after they've resolved whatever got them the reputation in the first place. It's Seagate's turn, now. |

True, before shop runner, I would just complain to the customer service, and they gave me free return shipping, and on items I simply no longer wanted, they waved the restocking fee. They always say that was becaused I am a "valuable customer" but I am sure anyone who asks would get it. 5 TV's in the house with Verizon FiOS and we only pay $3.99/month to connect all 5 of them. Thanks to Ceton InfiniTV4 and CableCard.

I always stick to my budget $80 to $100 and update ever 1/2 years. I paid about $100 for a 420MB Quantum Drive in mid 90s, now got a 3TB for $90 - it's huge price DROP
Getting obsessed by deals everyday. Almost paranoid. Any good deal on Psychiatric Specialist visit? |

But most people talk about mirror backup. And RAID-1 is definitely a kind of backup. So are you saying any automatically real time sync software to another hard drive is not consider a backup? |
