Just wanted to chime in. For your questions toward the end, weighted keys are preferred, especially for beginners. You may also be wondering why. I like to think it has a little to do with muscle memory but in this case how hard one must depress the keys. If you were taught on non-weighted, transitioning to a regular piano will be a less than pleasant experience down the road. You'll be constantly trying to compensate for the heavy keys rather than focusing on the piece. There are more reasons, but the one is enough for anyone serious about this hobby. Hope I helped.
thank you, that makes a lot of sense. Repped for you help.

This might sound a bit extreme but I swear it's not: You definitely want all three: weighted keys, touch sensitive (I think all keyboards should be touch sensitive anyway, unless it's a kid toy), and full size. I learned to play on a school piano and I found it difficult to transition to a quality piano because of the key resistance, because the used school piano didn't strengthen my fingers enough. If you learn on a non-weighted digital piano and one day you walk into a fancy venue and want to just sit down and play a real piano, you will sound like you are touching the instrument for the first time.

Touch sensitive is important because like a guitar sometimes you want softer sounds and sometimes richer sounds. If every note is the same depth then the pieces lose their swaying quality. If you want to play happy birthday and Mary had a little lamb, you don't need touch sensitive. If you want to learn Mozart, you need touch sensitive.

I have never played a non-full sized but I can't imagine how one can play a piano with some octaves missing. I would guess it would be like when one of my guitar strings broke and I had only 5 strings: I couldn't play any song fully!
Repped... thanks so much!

Looks like it's OOS at Guitar Center:

"We're sorry, but the product that you are searching for is sold out at this time, or is no longer available."

It's still available at Musician's Friend though.

I ordered over the phone from musicians, and they gave me another 15% off due to black Friday.

This keyboard is a doorbuster for $199.99 at any Music & Arts location today Smilie
Thanks for the tip from Citrusbeard, regarding Music and Arts. I visited one of their west chicagoland stores hoping to get it for $199. It was on sale for $299.00 However, they threw in a 20% off black friday coupon (which brought it down to $239) and they had also had a $100 visa card (that can be used in any store, not just music and arts) for the first 5 customers of the day. I was in there @ 8:50 am and there was no one in the store. laugh out loud

So, my final price was $157.39 ( $239 + tax -$100 visa gift card) .

Heads up.

Guitar Center online reps are very friendly, hit them up for a chat, tell them that you are trying to apply a 15% code on the Casio keyboard and they will give you a unique code that works. It will bring the keyboard price down to about $212 dollars before tax.

Use this all the time, I buy all my gear from GC and they always give me at least 15% off of any item, including "excluded" items.
I called this morning and they applied an extra 15% off to my order I placed last night.

Thanks for the recommendation. wave

I ordered last night and just tried calling to get the extra 15% off applied to the order. They wouldn't do it though because they said the 15% off doesn't apply to sale items like this one. I guess I could keep calling and see if I eventually find a rep who's willing to do it, but I'm not sure how much time I really want to put into this Smilie

You guys recommend any keyboard stands?

Btw, I was one of the lucky ones to get the $100 Visa card at Music Arts and they priced matched after I showed them my receipt from Guitar Center (guess I'll be returning that one).

I did that too last night and I got a unique coupon code to apply to the piano to bring the price down to $211.65 before tax. It's a great deal.

Anyone have experience with backordered items at Guitar Center? It seems shady, but I suspect that GC put the deal out there and didn't cut off the ordering process when they were OOS.

I put in an order and got an email order confirmation at 3:35 on Thursday. There was no notification of the GC order being backordered at that time. Now that it's 24 hours later, I just got another email saying:

"Thank you again for your order #[DIFFERENT THAN FIRST EMAIL]. We have yet to receive the out of stock item(s) noted below, but we have more on order with the manufacturer. We will ship them to you as soon as we receive them. We sincerely appreciate your patience."

Some googling has indicated a disturbing trend of rolling backorder notifications, with delays growing from days to weeks to months, and in some cases ending simply as a cancellation and refund. Maybe I was just finding extraordinary cases, but it's enough to cause concern. Anyone have any experience dealing with GC and backorders, personally? Is there anything that can be done other than just waiting and hoping the order eventually comes through (before Christmas)?

Got one from Musician Friends (back-order). No luck getting the 15% off even with Chat to rep. E*bates -8% cash back + discover 5% cash back & no tax.
