Not quite. The SquareTrade warranty from Costco is slightly different then if purchased directly from SqTr in that it starts after the manufacturers warranty ends so,

1. Manufacturer
2. SQ
3. SQ
4. SQ
5. AMEX

This is $60 through Costco. Note on the Costco warranty: US. Service Plan must be bought within 60 days of purchasing the TV.

Same coverage as the 4 yr SQ direct plan would get you.

EDIT 2: Look at Clause 11. Notice the "No Lemon Policy," which is NOT how it works if you buy from SQ directly. I had an identical lemon issue for a PS3 and they only paid for repairs up to the cost of the item and I was left with about $12 on my fourth claim and had to pay out of pocket for the rest because my funds were exhausted.

Yes. The 3 year plan at Costco is equal to the 4 year plan at SQ in terms of coverage.

If you can get 40% off the SQ price than both plans will cover the same time for the same price $60

EDIT: I can even find the Terms and Conditions on SQ direct. No Lemon Policy is a def plus

EDIT2: Another bonus of the Costco plan is the coverage range is wider. The $500 to $1000 tv policy should get you $1000 coverage limit. If you purchase through SQ your range is $500 - $699 so you only get a $699 coverage limit.

Just another update. I registered my TV's and all show 5 years of coverage through squaretrade so through costco you do get the 2 year manufacturers.

The over $1000 plan gives a coverage limit of $3,999.99

So to Update your plan timeline Rebelx through costco it would be

1. Costco/Manufacturer/SQ
2. Costco/Manufacturer/SQ
3. SQ
4. SQ
5. SQ
6. AMEX

It does not look like laptops bought outside of Costco can be covered although the laptop plan from costco is not as good as the TV plan.

Is this stated anywhere in the fine print? Because all I see when you click on the warranty, is a diagram stating Costco extends the mfr warranty 1 year, and then fine print underneath stating that you can also purchase SQ warranty for non-Costco purchases, but doesn't specify for non-Costco that you'd only get 4 years instead of 5.

Yeah, in that SQ price bracket, a 4 year SQ with 40% off would be the same as the Costco 3 year middle bracket, assuming you don't get the 2nd year of Costco coverage. But if you get the full 5 from Costco, with AMEX you'd have 6 years total for $59.99? That's pretty nice.

I missed this post somehow, lol. So you got the full 5 for a non-costco tv? I was curious about the over $1000 too, so it goes even higher than SQ's highest bracket. Six years is awesome. For a $550 tv at Sears the protection plan was like somewhere around $250 for 3 years. Ugly.

When i look at the Terms and Conditions, it says in the header that the coverage starts after the manufacturer or costco concierge. What if my manufacturers warranty is shoddy or they lack customer service? Will Costco follow suit for the extended year the same way? What happens if my tv is not in working state before square trade warranty starts? Will square trade take care of it when i hit the third year?

Sorry for throwing so many questions but i bought a Haier 32" LED TV on Amazon lightning deal and i am not too sure how well the manufacturer will be in terms of warranty.

The other option i have is to buy 3 year square trade from Amazon right away for $29.98 but i will miss out on the first 2 years and the 6th year covered by American Express.

Oh, interesting! Although, I do know for a fact that AMEX won't carry a warranty for a 6th year. They only cover up to 5 with either a separate third party, or manufacturer, warranty.

Not really the same. SQ will only give you a $699.99 coverage limit while costco will give you a $1000 coverage limit

It appears that you get 5 years of SQ coverage through the costco deal.

Over $1000 costco selection will give you a $3,999.99 coverage limit.

A 5 year, $3,999.99 coverage limit plan for $100 is slick

It looks like SQ gives you a 5 year term warranty.

I would assume that you would file the claim with whoever is the current holder of the warrenty when it breaks. I have not fully figured out whether SQ is a full five years or whether it really is costco for 2 and SQ for 3.

The costco plan is the way to go. You are essentially pay SQ 29.98 for one year of coverage and perhaps 2 years of slightly better coverage when, for 29.99, you can get 5 years of coverage. Costco is a pretty consumer friendly company so I doubt you would hae any issues with them.

It is very unusual for a credit card company to offer this type of warrenty and might be specific to the type of AMEX card you have. Just because it is an AMEX does not mean you will get the extra year of coverage.
