Squaretrade TV Warranty via Costco (<$500) $29.99, ($500-$1K) $59.99, ($1K+) $99.99

You buy 3-yr ST warranty from ST, you get Mfr + 2ST for 3 total years.
You buy 3-yr ST warranty from Costco, you get Mfr + Costco + 3ST for 5 total years.

I think there's some confusion here on both parts. I don't understand how NickD figures either company's coverage is different and why ST is better than Costco. But as far as I understand, the $3,999.99 max limit on Costco's just means that's how expensive of a tv. they will cover.

Based on Costco's details, they will refund up to the coverage amount, or replace with new or refurbished item with similar features. Considering it mentions refurbished, and the no lemon policy states refund of purchase price, I really doubt you'd ever get up to a $3999.99 replacement if you paid much less, even if it is MSRP at the coverage limit.

But ST's details also say clearly that refund or replacement are for the purchase price.

I already bought a warranty squaretrade direct with 40% off. Coverage limit of $699 on a $550 TV bought from amazon. I paid $59.99. Is this worth canceling and rebuying?

So if your TV is broken on the second year, you'd call costco for TV your purchased else where? If your TV is not repairable on the second year, Costco will give you a refund because it provides the extra year warranty, according to you? Doesn't make sense, does it?

You certainly would not get a $3,999.99 replacement tv if they went the Replacement/Refund route as opposed to repairing your tv. You would get a replacement of your TV or a like TV. However, ST warranties have depreciating coverage. Example: If you have a 1699.99 coverage limit and your first repair costs $800, your coverage limit would now be lowered to 899.99. If your TV needed another repair for the same issue and it cost another $800 you would be left with only $99.99. If for some reason you had the same problem again the remaining ST warranty would only cover 99.99 of the $800 repair. You would be out of pocket for the remainder. A higher coverage limit, all things being equal in price, is much much better.

Costco sells everything, why not insurance? I think it makes sense that they'd pay to fix something you didn't buy from them, if you bought coverage from them for that item. I guess your best bet is to just call Costco and find out from them for sure, but people on here have claimed getting 5 years, and I didn't see anything on their site or in the fine print saying they only add the 2nd year for Costco purchases.

This was too good not to get into, even if my VISA doubles the one year warranty, and even if I only get 4 years total, that's pretty incredible. For $33+ as a non-member, I got one for the Sceptre 40" Walmart TV that I bought as a present for my Aunt. Thanks to everybody for the info!
