Is Seagate STAR401 any good?
From the reviews, the transfer rate is very slow. Poor reviews. What other NAS people would recommend? |

lots o bad reviews on the NAS, seems like an older version as well, only USB 2.0 and SATA II, for $150 there has to be a better option out there

I had the NAS 440 with 12TB (4x 3TB Seagate drives)... Long story short, I still have the drives, but not the NAS. Weak features, interface, and transfer speeds. The end.

I think for a "few" bucks more I'd rather build a linux box and just stick the drives in it.
$510-($90x4 raw drive cost) = $140. So in the ball park of $60-$100 more you'd be set. Being Dyslexic is the ULTIMATE Slick Deal! If you read a book twice, you get two different stories!

I hope so and some drive sales would be good too. I am tempted to get these Seagate 3TB drives, but I've had problems with them before and these seem to have issues too. |

I seen NAS and wanted a set up. I have nothing but problems with my reg raid tower 10tb sans digital. After many calls to them, they said it will not work with WD green drives, Then they said buy a new card, after a new $75 card , i have 5 2tb green drives that i am trying to get working with sans digital junk.
Just using as storage, hooked to pc in the office, using Plex and 360 to hook to it. A Nas system would seem a lot better. |
