In those scenarios you proposed I don't much see how that would help your wife unless she is having signal issues. Diagnose the facetime lag issue first, it could be the person on the other end, and then come up with a solution.

I'm using a Netgear router supplied by TWC roadrunner service. I've git a 3 level house so would I see a huge difference in speed? Everything's wireless in the house. 3 Xbox 360's on Live, a PS3, Netflix on all the tvs., gaming pc, tablets, iPhones....etc.

For desktops and stationary devices like the Xbox360 and PS3, MoCA provides the most consistent throughput. I have two Actiontec MI-424WR Rev. I MoCA routers configured as MoCA bridges. The Rev.G and Rev.I versions of the MI-424WR have gigabit wan and ethernet ports, and they provide 135-140Mbps (17.5MB/s) usable throughput to any room in your home with a coax cable. Verizon sells these MoCA routers for $79.99 [verizon.com].

Unfortunately, MoCA does nothing for wireless devices like the iPad and iPhone, which is why you need a quality wireless router like the Asus RT-N66U. With the Verizon-supplied Actiontec routers, I was never able to get more than 30Mbps on my iPhone 5 and iPad 4, and throughput was as low as 15Mbps in some spots. With the Asus RT-N66U, I get 80Mbps with my iPhone 5 and iPad 4.

Tip: Replace any older DECT wireless phones you have with DECT 6.0 phones. Older DECT phones interfere with the optimal 5GHz 802.11n band for networking, whereas DECT 6.0 phones do not. Also, configure the RT-N66U 5GHz antenna to use "N only" and select channel 157 for the best signal strength.

Did you compare it directly with the N66U? My understanding is that the N65U gets VERY hot and can be unstable due to the fact that it has TWO processors running simultaneously. Have you experience any stability issue with you router?

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. I have an old Actiontec, which is rock solid for reliability, but not very fast. Last time I tried to get a better one, they said there weren't any available. For my home theater equipment I went back to wired, and I split the coax into a Netgear MoCA connected to a GB switch for the PS3, Apple TV, etc.

I need to keep the Actiontec as a "modem", so that is why the plan was to connect a new router to that home theater MoCA connection and use that for wireless. Plus I have a 3-story house, and the router is currently on the 3rd floor. This would move it to the second floor, which should provide better overall coverage.

Forgot to mention that I didn't do a direct comparison, but my wife relies on the functionality of the router since she works from home 12 hours a day on Cisco network with vpn and voip connected to the router. It has NEVER dropped a connection or become unstable, even while me streaming video, torrenting, and guests surfing on computers and tablets all at once. Asus, to me, truly makes a super router.

What is the range like since it doesn't have any external antenna? Also, I have Verizon FiOS and I put on my wired connections on the Verizon router. But my wireless router is a trusted Netgear WNR3500 router that's dedicated to performing wireless routing task. Should I move all the wired connections to the Asus router should i get it? Ive noticed that my connection slows down when there are a lot of people are online at the same time. TIA.

Hey do you notice that your wireless connection come to halt when the microwave is being used? Does this happen to the Asus router? It happens to my Netgear all the time when someone is using the microwave....really annoying!
