I frequently have to restart it and it's just been all around terrible as far as having multiple users using the internet at the same time. Is it limiting my internet performance seeing as I only have a 6mbps download speed in the first place?
Thanks for your helpful response!
Then YES this is one of the BEST routers I think you can get.
It's the most popular router and thus; is the most compatible with almost every custom firmware you can imagine which would improve its value even more.
I'd suggest Tomato. Or even its varient Tomato RAF which I gather is somehow better at QoS than the stock Tomato. Not sure why but GO FOR IT in that case!
my WRT54G2 is aging (4 years old+) but it's currently working really well, dd-wrt micro. I have it set to auto reboot every morning @ 6am when everyone's sleeping just to keep things running super smoothly.
So by plugging in USB storage (external hard drive), this can turn it into NAS ?
you could... but it'll be slow
best results, formatting a USB HDD with ext2/3, wired computer connected to router gigabit, gets around 3-7MB/s transfer rate... maybe just enough for HD bluray streaming, but definitely not the best results
I have 2 RT-N16s: one next to my modem, one as a wireless bridge next to my desktop that's far away... tomato USB mod (for printer support), these things are stable with tomato/ddwrt firmware
