Looks like the router works real good for everyone that's using the openwrt firmware. I'm at 2 weeks up time without any problems. I have 4 laptops, a few smart phones, and an apple tv.

For the curious and/or bored, there is definitely a working version of dd-wrt for this device now.

Tp-link also released a new version of their firmware on Christmas day. I have not personally tested either version yet.

how about the rebate? I submitted my rebate in early December 2012, but still cannot find it through rapid-rebates.com. Does anyone find your rebate received?

Also mailed early December. Around 2 weeks later, it shows up as "being processed." It's still like that right now.

"We have received your claim and it is currently being processed. Please allow 4-6 weeks from the date your claim was received." It seems like something is awry with your rebate, greatzt.

Also, the dd-wrt firmware that I linked to above works SO much better than the stock firmware. I highly recommend flashing that build on to your router if you are having stability issues, want QOS, want local hostname/IP resolution, want SSL web remote management or desire other advanced features.

The newest TP link firmware solved my drop issues. My laptop with a ralink card would have drop a few times a day very annoying was about to flash one of the custom firmwares, but noticed that tp link issued an update around xmas time has been solid since.

Same here almost... crappy but stable. I had to load the latest stock firmware (12/25/2012), so network clients wouldn't drop or become unresponsive, but for some reason, I now have very poor performance when surfing the internet (especially loading multiple tabs) -- lots of failed loads, or I'll get served low-bandwidth pages, etc. etc.. It's definitely the router/firmware... I switched back to my D-Link WBR-1310 and everything is right as rain again.

So, does it take 3rd party firmware to make this a decent router?

I didn't sniff any traffic with the old firmware, but it almost seemed to me as if the session table was far too small when using the old firmware. I noticed that the device REALLY suffered when I was trying to open a lot of TCP connections. dd-wrt will cure what ails you if you have the knowledge to use it.

NOTE: If you can't use Putty and telnet into the router, choose SSH instead of telnet.

Just looked up my rebate and it says "Please allow up to 10 weeks from the date your claim was received."

Seems odd for that long of a rebate process.

I'd like some help please. I got this router, and installed the gargoyle custom firmware on it. I connected my Hp laserjet 1020 to the USB port, and the router recognized it. However, when I went to 192.168.1.1, logged in, and navigated to the usb printer settings, I got this message:


HP LaserJet 1022 is connected via USB.

You can connect to your printer on IP 192.168.1.1 via HP JetDirect protocol.



I tried to search on google and everything, but I can't figure out how to print wirelessly. Can someone help? I attached a screenshot of the router management page. Thanks a lot

Have you tried installing the printer manually?:

Start > Run > "printui /il" > The printer that I want isn't listed > "Select a shared printer by name" or "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings".

Yep ive tried that, could there bea chance that the hp laserjet 1020 isn't supported with print servers?

Dang it, was trying to goof around with the router to work as an AP. Couldnt figure out the gargoyle interface, so I just quit.

Now I cant even log into the router IP address. The factory hard reset also doesnt help :'( The power is on, I can see Wifi signals, but cannt connect via wifi or ethernet.

Any idea what could be wrong? I tried searching to no avail...
