Missed the NewEgg 10% off notebook memory deal by an hour.
I was going to pick up the Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model 997038 for $58.xx. Should I expect any memory sales soon, or just pick something at current prices? Also, I've seen many suggest not upgrading to 16GB if you hibernate without a mSATA/SSD drive as it will take awhile to enter and exit hibernation. Is this a valid concern? I think 16GB would be good for me as I tend to work on VMs often. Is anyone planning to install an mSATA drive for the OS? I'm really considering this option. Is it still worth it given it will only run at SATA II speeds? |

At first I kept wiping it thinking it was dust then realized it wasn't going away. ![]() Out of all the LCD-equipped devices I owned over the years (TN, IPS), this is the first time I encountered a defective / dead pixel. |

I did add 256gb msata and 16gb ram then removed the HD with Windows 8 and am just running the msata with 7 Pro. Still have a few components to test but so far I am extremely satisfied. I always planned to switch to 7Pro but after my 15 minutes testing Win8 I think Microsoft is destined for failure with this release. I may ultimately dual boot ubuntu on here but that is a project for another week. |

Disappointing EasyServ Experience
http://support.lenovo. Update: sent the computer out for repairs on 12/13. Received it back on 12/17. Problem still not fixed! When I sent it in, I included a note letting whosoever unpacked my computer know where to look for the dead pixels. Apparently my note was ignored, my hard drive erased / re-imaged (per my request) and the laptop packed back into the shipping box with the accessories strewn about.I've noticed whosoever handled the repairs has partially stripped the memory door screw heads, and metal filings seen near the screw hole. Talked to the support center, and again they're sending me a shipping box (could've just emailed me a shipping label for me to tape onto the existing box, and save a day in transit). They've escalated me to "Level 2," whatever that means. |
