Wow neat device !

I have a question about this product. I have a wired networking printer (Canon D420) that I want to use wirelessly. It isn't anywhere close to the router and I'm trying to figure out a way to be able to print wirelessly to it. Would a product such as this be able to give it that functionality? If I connected an ethernet cable from this device to the ethernet port on the back of the printer?

Yep. As long as it is within wireless range. The same is true for wired Bluray players... it turns a wired access point into wireless and you can use the included AC to usb converter to power access point.

2 more questions. There is a black one [newegg.com] that looks exactly the same and it's the same price too. Do you know what the difference is? Also, would this be the cheapest solution in order to get my wired networking printer (Canon D420) to print wirelessly? I was thinking of connecting an unused laptop to the printer by USB and always having the laptop on so we can use the printer as a "shared printer" but I don't want to always leave that laptop on.

1) they appear to be identical
2) yes, this is probably the cheapest solution. this is essentially a "wireless ethernet bridge", or a "gaming adapter" that you may have seen before. this would have taken your old xbox 360 (non wifi-version) wireless by plugging it into the ethernet.

i plan on using this to replace the crappy trendnet one that i have for my printer (turned that wireless, just like you wanted to do).
the problem with the trendnet that i have is that if you lose power, all the settings are lost! so i'd have to reconfigure it back to the wifi router...

also, i might get a second one, just for building pc's with. instead of installing a USB dongle (which would require drivers), i could just install this (since most computers have the ethernet driver compatible with the OS), so no driver-hunting involved
