imo the money saved by going seagate is not close to worth the headache that will happen when the drive fails. I've had four seagates fail me in the last eight years and not a single western digital.

Picked up 1 from BB. I pay tax with Amazon anyway, so didn't really matter to me. Picked up Pulp Fiction on blu for an additional $3.99 while I was at it.

You can open this unit and pop out the drive inside, I've done it. It works great as an internal. Note that you must destroy the enclosure to do this, though, no going back.
Also - make sure you update the firmware to the most recent version. You need to ask for it via customer service, it's not on the site. It takes care of a lot of the power down problems people complain about. |

Have to go with Best Buy as well. What's with Amazon? They can't keep up any more. If I remember right, Best Buy was spanking Amazon's rear end last year with the deals. Looks like this year may be the same. I do have to say, Amazon's lightning deals so far this year have been pathetic. Most of it is old crap that they're just trying to dump. No real deals at all. Pity! I always liked Amazon. It was nice knowing you.....

Out of the 10+ HD's I've had from Seagate I've had 2 go bad. The odds are not bad considering. Though I do agree with you that WD is better, I've only had 1 WD ever die on me out of the 20+ i've owned over the last 2 decades but considering the WD 3TB externals drives are $160+ right now its not a bad deal. |
