i use the coiled cable for my laptop and PC because i don't want a long ass cable that i have to move out of the way constantly. i use the straight cable with my receiver because i need to be a fair distance away from it. if i had to pick one, i'd pick the coiled cable any day.

I bought a straight pair last Black Friday for $115 for my little brother, he says he is crazy them, so I just ordered a coiled pair this time for myself without any hesitation. BTW, I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD598, I will use them both. M50 for travelling, walking, HD598 for home use.

The reason I love headphones is they hardly lose worth, we can use them for nearly 10 years, they are still fantastic, the technology doesn't change much. Not like cell phones. In my opinion, cell phones are not worth of buying, better phones coming out every month, you can't catch up with them, today your cell phone is a pretty lovely baby, tomorrow it would be an ugly 190-year old female.

So I think it's a wise choice to collect good quality headphones other than cellphones.

Great pair of cans. Hard to find better for the price and very comfortable for extended use.

How are these compared to sr60s or 80s?

The Audiotechnica ATH-A900s are legendary - I've owned these for years. I wonder how these compare.

The question is, are they more fun, colored 'phones like the Grados or low-end Koss, or are they more neutral and kinda clinical sounding, like the MDR-V6? Or neither? I just gave away my last set of closed 'phones, so if these are good enough, I'll jump.

Can these be used with an iPhone alone or will they need an amp? Getting tired of crappy headphones on the airplane...
