Clarification: The 14z Black Friday deal was NOT the ultrabook still available, it was an older 14z model.

"Dell advertised a "doorbuster Black Friday" special of a Dell Inspiron 14z ultra-lightweight ultrabook with an MSRP of $639.99 for only $299, with free shipping to those who visited their website at 12:01 AM on 11/24. I stayed up later than usual to accept this offer. I spent an hour waiting on slow server responses to finally get an order confirmation page and a corresponding confirmation email at 12:54AM; then I went to bed satisfied that I had ordered a product that met my needs during the limited "Black Friday" timeframe. I saw many equivalent laptop deals from other sources over the weekend, but had my order confirmation so I did not pursue any of them.

At 12:01AM on 11/26, AFTER all of the Black Friday weekend sales had ended I received an email from Dell informing me that they "regret the inconvenience" but they ran out of the ultra-lightweight ultrabooks which I had ordered, so they would automatically be shipping me a bulkier, larger and inferior laptop, minus the bundled Adobe software for the same price instead. The replacement they are offering has absolutely no advantages over the ultrabook that I ordered. The replacement has a lower MSRP of $568.99, it weighs 26% more, has USB2.0 ports as opposed to USB3.0, has a lower-resolution screen, has a reduced battery life, is missing the promised Adobe Photoshop bundle, and it also has a touchscreen-based operating system installed on it despite not having a touchscreen! I called the 1-800 number provided in the email and was told by a CSR that my only alternative to receiving the inferior replacement was to cancel the order entirely and then have no laptop at all to show for my "Black Friday" shopping.

Meanwhile, Dell still offers these 14" ultra-lightweight ultrabooks for immediate sale (says ships next business day) on their website albeit with Windows 8 now replacing the preferred Windows 7:

I believe Dell used bait-and-switch to lure my business away from their competitors and is now trying to charge me the agreed on price for an inferior product, knowing that I have no alternative but to walk away from the soured deal. I am no longer able to take advantage of their competitors "Black Friday" sale pricing to get an equivalent price on a laptop I actually want and Dell is using this knowledge dishonestly to coerce me into paying for inventory they are trying to offload. If they were honest they would have informed me of the shortage before the annual sale-event weekend was over so I could find something else, and if they were earnest they would have provided an equivalent ultrabook in substitute. Instead, they waited until after the sales were all over, and then offered me an inferior laptop.

Finally my order went thru after ~1 hour 40 minutes. Does anyone know in order to qualify for Discover Card cashback, do I need to complete my order within certain time frame???

My order went through too after the same time period. I don't expect to get Discover cash back since it took too long.

I had one in my cart but it was removed probably because I couldnt save it in time. I still have one at the regular price in there. If customer service dont make this right I am going to be so pissed...

Shopdiscover says the bonus cashback can only be used in conjunction with deals that appear on shopdiscover.com. Did this deal ever appear there? I decided to go with the bird in the hand and get the 2% MPP discount with the 5% cashback on all online purchases.

It's also unclear if the 10% stacks with the 5%. I think it's just 10%, as a 5% is crossed off and replaced by 10% on the Dell page at shopdiscover.

Worst customer service experience ever. Sat on hold for 1 hour 30 min and wanted to purchase even still a different deal and was told I could not.

Good luck, don't have high hopes. I had the same happen to me and there was nothing they could do over the phone but try to sell me a different overpriced laptop. When I asked about a different promo that I had received an email about, she told me the coupon was no longer valid (was supposed to be good through all day today).

ETA: I'm live chatting now & the rep claims it was sold out in 20 min. Liar liar, lol.

So.. I was one of those extremely angry Slickdealers who went nuts after dell crashed and went on their facebook page to rant. BUT after 2 hours and 40 mins of trying.. I managed to order one. *crosses fingers and hope that they keep their words in the confirmation email*

My story is, I been hounding this thread since this afternoon and had the inspiron 14z saved to my cart hours prior to the start of the deal. I signed up with dell and filled in my address and information and saved the cart. When 12am came around, like everyone else here, I screamed at the crash. I thought it was just my crappy internet so I had my boyfriend with much faster internet and pc help me get it. But same thing, didn't work. After trying for the whole hour and a half and calling customer service to get silence on the line and non-stop refreshes. I gave up. What I hadn't realized was that I still had the customer chat up (which I was in queue with 3010 people before me when I first clicked on it at like 12:30am)... I went back onto dell's site for the last time before I go to sleep and realized that I easily gained access to my cart (AND SHAZAM IT'S STILL THERE!) so I tried it.. and guess what? It went through Embarrassment! I still had a rep on the chat and so I told her how I haven't been able to check out since 12am but she gave me a lousy response saying that the computer is now out of stock.. however *on the other monitor* I'm checking out... and in the end, I did check out and got the confirmation email. The total came up to $322.55.

The moral of this story is: "Don't trust the reps! keep trying!" Good luck everyone~
