I received the following email from a Dell CSR today:

We are replacing your Black Friday order with an Inspiron 15 at no additional cost. If you wish to order another laptop, we can cancel the order for the Inspiron 15 and give you a $100 discount on the laptop you choose.

Please let me know the option you would prefer.

Also, you make it sound like you're doing me a favor by offering me a larger, heavier and technically inferior device which has a lower MSRP than the ultrabook that I ordered. Why exactly would there be an "additional cost" associated with giving me such a device in the first place?

I see you still have the Inspiron 14Z available for order on your website, if you are able to apply your offered $100 discount to make the total on one of these the agreed upon $299 then that would resolve my complaint. Otherwise, your offer is not satisfactory. I had an order confirmation for an Inspiron 14z ultrabook for $299 and because of that confirmation I did not pursue any of the myriad other ultrabook deals that were only offered during the Black Friday sales event weekend. I specifically chose Dell's offer of all the choices available, and I now regret that choice.

Dell waited until AFTER the weekend was over to notify me of a shortage that should have been immediately detected. Is Dell's inventory not tracked electronically? Do you have no automated system to limit sales to the inventory available? No way to immediately detect when sales exceed inventory? Those are standard precautions for ANY business, let alone a computer company.

I am no longer able to take advantage of the aforementioned Black Friday deals, completely due to Dell's delay, so I expect Dell to complete the order that Dell confirmed and that they maintained confirmation of throughout the weekend. Unless you no longer make Inspiron 14z's (Dell's website says otherwise) then you have no excuse for not fulfilling the order as placed. I believe you are purposefully withholding the 14z so that you can make a profit on the undesirable Inspiron 15, which is 2 years older, lacks USB3.0, has a reduced battery life, weighs 26% more and has a lower screen resolution, with a much lower DPI. One extra inch of screen in no way offsets all of those detriments.

If you are only offering me the Inspiron 15 notebook while you continue to sell the Inspiron 14Z ultrabook then that is the textbook definition of bait-and-switch, and in addition to the BBB I will also report Dell's marketing practices to the FTC and the Attorney General in Texas. I look forward to your response and proposed resolution to Dell's dishonest sales practices.

I would gladly trade a 14z for all the hours I wasted on this stupid process, but it's too late. I AM absolutely irate for losing precious time and energy I could have used on enjoyable pursuits and time shared with loved ones. That matters more to me than anything, and for that, I will pursue this issue to see that Dell does not escape repercussion for treating its customers like dirt and robbing us of our time and money.

Wow, just as I thought Dell couldn't possibly screw this up any further:

Dell canceled my two orders of 14z (expected).
Sent an updated email telling me that I'm now only getting ONE (1) Insp 15 for my customer ID.

Then the best part is - instead of sending it to my mailing address, which was clearly indicated on my original order confirmation, they're now sending it to my billing address. Which will have no one available to pick up the package. Freaking Dell's website won't me let change the mailing information either (only billing). Now I have to freaking call them up and adjust this BS also.

This afternoon I got a call from them and said that its a pricing error, they don't know how many reason they are telling to all the customers. Each times different story. I said them at please cancel my order and good bye to dell. Right after the call they have cancelled my order, but just now I got an email with the new order for 15. WTF...

I got an email from a Dell Executive Customer Service rep named Shawn in regards to my BBB complaint. He simply said he tried to call me but was unable to reach me and asked for an alternative number. I did not receive any missed calls today! Well let's hope he offers a better solution than what is already presented when he calls me back tomorrow... the Inspiron 15 that they switched me to without my consent has been in the "order processing" stage for 2 days! Maybe I should be glad they haven't shipped it yet?
