The only reason that I even noticed this is because while trying to scale the screen to fit, the TV told me me it was 1080i. I than went into the resolution by right clicking and not only did the desktop show all of the selections up to and including 1920x1080 but so did the Intel integrated graphics and AMD Vision control center. You are probably correct in saying that it is up scaling but usually when this happens there seems to be some degree of instability and I am just not seeing this at all.

I seem to recall that there are screw holes in the back of the set. I also attached the back of the set from Amazon you should be able to see the screw holes.

Requested a replacement on mine. A line of dead pixels are visible on dark colored pictures.

Late Monday Amazon admitted their error and DID CARE when I shared my receipt with them. They followed through with my original order, Im impressed and my Amazon account is remaining open.

Mine arrived. Decent 720p quality, SD upscaling is *horrible.* I will need to get a different DVR. *sigh* Time to finally retire the TiVo series 2.

I am 99% sure I received a defective unit. When I turn it on with no peripherals attached I get really f'd up colors and solid lines everywhere and I can't go into any menus or change the screen at all. I think it was mishandled. Will be exchanging

I just got mine today and after reading about the problems above, I thought I better check it out before wrapping it up.

Everything seemed OK until I started playing with the picture modes.
When I push the "picture" button on the remote, it starts to cycle through the different modes with each push.

After pushing it a few times, the picture goes black just like the set is off but I still have sound. I can change the channel and the sound changes but still no picture.
The only way I could get it to come back was to turn it off and then back on.

This happened a few times and also happened once in the picture mode menu.
Then,I could not reproduce it again.

I've got it unplugged now and will let it cool off and see if it happens again tomorrow.

Anybody else seen this problem, issue, feature?

The TV does a firmware update on its own. Perhaps you were playing with it while it was doing that. The other night, I set it up and turned it off for the night. The next morning, when I turned it back on, I got a message saying the TV was upgraded to FW version 1.14 (I think). So, let it upgrade to the latest firmware and then see if you still have the problem. I have played with the settings but I have not cycled through the various picture modes. I will do that tonight.

Well they've already started my new order without having received my defective unit back yet, I'm impressed. Although last night the CSR I chatted with told me he couldn't help and that I would have to call back during certain hours because they had a special department for that. I thought it was weird, but I didn't save the number so I chatted again this morning to get the number and she had me squared away within minutes with a new order and shipping return label Anyone have an experience like that?

Also for anyone who hasn't opened theirs yet, you should open it to make sure it functions properly. I'm glad I opened mine, otherwise it would have been a lame Christmas present.

Out of curiosity, when you first turned it on, what does the panel look like? What displays on the screen, etc?

edit: for anyone wondering the mount pattern is 400x200 like another poster mentioned.

Mine is defective too. I have a dead pixel that appears bright blue in black background. The dead pixel is close to center so it is clearly visible. I went to Amazon.com and requested a replacement. I already see a replacement order scheduled for delivery on 11/30. UPS will be picking up the defective unit max by tomorrow.

I am impressed by Amazon's customer service.

Sorry. Seems I have mistaken this Haier post with the Vizio post. The Vizio is what updated the firmware. This one doesn't have a network to update the firmware. Sorry for the confusion.

This one just proceeded to ask me about the timezone and then set up the channels after asking me about the connection type etc. The screens are quite BLUE I might add.

Wow. Exchanging for one dead pixel? Did they ask how many pixels were dead? I thought the min was like 8 or 10 for computer monitors. I have not even tested the TV for dead pixels yet. I might want to do that given you found one on yours.

Not sure what the minimum is but i could see a bright blue spot on black background (usb mode). It is possible that there might be few dead next to each other but i did not microscope it. That blue spot just distracted me for me to order a replacement.

I did a quick calibration just now in my window lit room (no direct light right now):

1) Picture Mode: Personal
a) Contrast:64
b) Brightness: 51
c) Sharpness: 50
d) Color: 50
2) Color Temperature: Cool
3) Aspect Ratio: Wide
4) Noise Reduction: Off

I also did a test to check if the 1080p in was outputting 1080p but there was severe artifacting because of the upscaling. Just leave your players/media @ 720p. Hope this helps someone!

Is it worth buying Square Trade (ST) warranty on this TV? Purchasing ST warranty through Costco extends the manufacturer warranty by 1 year followed by 3 years from ST. For Tv's < $500. It is $29.99 so i was wondering if it was worth spending that money on this tv?
