Seagate Backup Plus 3TB USB 3 External HDD $100 at Newegg

I got one of them also, great deal. I would say the best thing to do with this drive is take it out of the case.

Order 2 of them and setup a raid or mirror. But for sure remove them out of the case, and since it sounds like the connection cord is bad.

run crystaldiskinfo on it before you rip it out of its black box just in case it has problems. i.e. reallocated sectors.

Sweet, the one from worst buy is going back. Just saved approx 10 bucks in tax..

I've been shopping with Newegg since 2001 but their new shipping company, prices and tactics will force me elsewhere. The cost of a DOA drive should be put back on the manufacturer NOT the unsuspecting consumer.

most likely it was the electronics of the enclosure that failed.

i highly doubt that it was the hdd itself.

Great price but reading the return policy comment, I am a little skeptical now to order from NewEgg

how is this different from one sold at BB & Costco, both of them are selling it for $99

some people (or all...not sure) had to pay shipping for the one @ costco. The one at costco though is now currently oos. I didn't hear about the BB deal, so not sure.

Yea, newegg doesn't have a great return policy, which is why I usually go for Amazon if they have the same item available for the same price.

But, paypal has this program going right now where they will cover return shipping, and also reimburse you the price difference if the item goes down from any merchant through December 31.

I spent way too much time over the past couple of weeks researching portable hard drives. If you believe the user reviews at the various sites the bottom line is that they all suck. Almost all of them have a significant percentage of failures after a short period of time and DOAs, regardless of brand. (I did find the Seagate Slim 500GB that got all positive reviews. We'll see if it holds up.)

Same thing with wireless routers (and other items, I just happened to be researching these two).

Why is it so hard to put out good product these days?
