Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones [amazon.com]

Lowest price I have seen for these headphones. Usually around the $60-70 mark.

hows the quality of the coating on these ear cups? is it made of cheap vinyl coating that will shred/tear easily? I had a pair of sony MDR V700 headphones but after a while the coating on the earcups just tears/sloughs off.....

geez, lowest price I've seen for these and I've been watching for a while. I already got in on the ATH M-50's though.

I would say yes depending on how roughly you treat your phones. Thin vinyl.

Are these velour pads the same size as the OEM pads? I read somewhere that the velour are slightly thicker and the driver will be slightly further out and changes the sound signature. I've had these for years paid about $80 for them, they sound great however the pad is gotten 'flakey' and Sony doesn't sell the original pads so I would consider the velour mods.

Between this, the M-50 and the HD280, this has them all beat on price. Nice find, OPs. Reps to both of you.
I think ATH-AD900 at buydig got the best price of the day, almost $200 off. But it's probably a price error though.

these are great headphones that seem to last a long time. the sound is very accurate (i feel it has slight coloring in the low end). they are extremely comfortable though i'm not a fan of coiled cables. great price for a solid set!

There's also the chinese pads that work fine for $6 or $7 shipped
