Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones [amazon.com]

Lowest price I have seen for these headphones. Usually around the $60-70 mark.

OMFG, so cheap! I'm tempted to buy another and I already have two!

If you're on the fence, get these. These are some of the best headphones you'll ever buy. They're a good deal at $80, with sound that trumps many headphones priced 2-3x as much. At $40 they're an absolute steal. Sure they're not exactly cutting edge or sexy, but they're seriously some of my favorite cans.

That said, here's a caveat: the Studio Monitor across the top isn't an idle boast. These headphones were originally designed for professional use (I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they're the most popular headphones in recording studios). That means they're not going to give you a very warm, rich, tuned sound. The point is to reproduce the original recording as faithfully and cleanly as possible, neither over nor underemphasizing anything. So I can definitely see why some people would find the sound a little clinical and flat. When I just want to strap some bass cannons to my head, I use my Crossfade LPs. When I want to hear absolutely everything in the recording, I use these.

Price Research: Our research indicates that Canon PIXMA MX892 Wireless All-in-One Color Photo Printer is $28 lower (42% savings) than the next best available price from a reputable merchant with prices starting from $68 -iconian

Well, if the PIXMA is $28 lower than the next best available price from a reputable merchant, then this Sony MDR-V6 MUST be a front page deal.

I think Beats are overpriced. If you wife just listens to Beatles, get this. Big Grin

Oh alright, Slickdeals put a gun to my head and made me purchase these.

Once I receive, I'll compare to my authentic Beats by Dre Studio and Bose On-Ear headphones.

I own these and used to own a pair of Beats. These blow the Beats out of the water. If you care about audio quality it's not even close. But for some people those things are a fashion symbol and the integrity of the sound is secondary. Only you could say which would be better for your wife.

Thought about it but after reading the following thread, among others, I'm waiting.

Your wife will like how it sounds but will never use it because its dang ugly. She'll go back to her apple stock earphone.

it doesn't matter which one is better in term of sound quality. what's your wife wants is the key. I would say go buy 299 beats for your wife(holding the receipt, you might find yourself returning it after xmas), and this V6 for yourself (and let your wife borrow if she is curious to know how V6 sounds).

Thanks! These are my favorite headphones at this price range. I have multiple headphones, costing 2-10 times as much but price/performance ratio of these can't be beat.

Because they are cheap, I don't feel uncomfortable bringing them along with me on trips. Especially since these collapse down and are closed back. My current pair is pretty old now, pads are tore up. Considered replacing the pads, but at this price, I'm just going to buy a new pair.
