Garmin nuvi 2460LMT, GPS, 5" , Bluetooth, Lifetime Maps Traffic,-Refurbished $100

got the 50LM refurb'd for $79.99+tax. Is this one really worth $20 more?

EDIT: went for the 2460LMT, no tax on ebay + ebay bucks + e.b.a.tes make it about $95, only $10 more. Resale value of 2460LMT is more than $10 difference from 50LM so should hold value a little better too.

BTW - AMEX does cover refurb items in their warranty extension, they are the only CC I think that does that

I use Google Maps/Nav for traffic but I prefer a Garmin GPS for voice guidance. I plan to use this Garmin's route storage feature via PC software to create custom routes. I often prefer my own route. I find the voice guidance much harder to understand on my Droid 3 than on a Garmin GPS on the dash.

It is loss of data connection that is a issue. I traveled to 12 national parks this summer and some has no voice signal much less data connection throughout much of the park. I just drove on a major highway in the midwest today in an urban area found that the Verizon data connection dropped to a 1X connection for at least 10 miles. Opening a webpage at that point took forever. Is Google Nav useful on a 1X connection? If I relied on a cell phone for GPS I would buy an app that stored the map data on the phone. While on vacation with my wife used a Garmin GPS on the dash while I used Microsoft Streets and Trips as a passenger for route planning and to find motels near my destination. Traffic was not an issue for most of our 6000 trip so I seldom used Waz or Google Nav The bigger the screen the better when using GPS for more than just voice guidance.

I have to plug my cell phone into a charger while using Waz or Google Nav to prevent it from quickly draining my battery while my dash GPS units seen to run much longer on battery.

What the difference in processor speed between the nuvi 2460LMT and the nuvi 50LM?

Do they calculate routes and are the menus both as responsive or is one quicker than the other?

This is a good unit and a good deal. It's basically the full featured 2011 model, just below the premium 37xx series. Functionally, it's way better than the 50LM that you see in a lot of BF deals. The 50 is their most basic 5" model. You can't even add traffic to that one if you wanted to.

On this unit:
- You can add or correct the speed limit on a road. Very handy! Not even the newer 2xx5 series can do this.
- You get a powered cradle so you don't have to unplug the USB power cable all the time when removing the unit from the car. Even the newer 2xx5 series don't have this powered cradle.
- You get voice command and Bluetooth
- You can create and save up to 100 routes and 1000 waypoints
- You can customize the main screen
- You can add custom avoidances and advance detours
- Build quality is better and looks more expensive then 30, 40 , 50 series
- Lifetime free FM traffic. They don't have ads anymore but the traffic isn't always accurate.
- Lifetime maps with all of North America (including Canada and parts of Mexico)

I've bought several Garmin refurbs. They look brand new with brand new accessories. They just come in a blue and white Garmin box. I wouldn't be surprised if "refurbished" is just a way to get rid of old-new stock.

Ebay bucks is credit you get for buying stuff, you will get a few $ for buying this, you can use it in a couple months.
