by technicality, the sandisk is faster. however, for ordinary users like us, you will never ever notice the slightest difference at all, except through benchmarking and such.

Man, people are buying this thinking it's a steal - stop crapping on the people saying 840 is bad compared to the 830. The 830 was on sale for $150 a couple weeks back and is BETTER than the 830. The 840 PRO is better than both, but is much more expensive.

SDers who think they know it all crack me up!! The 840 is both faster AND slower than the 830 it just depends on what test you look at. Overall they are about the same. TLC does indeed have a shorter lifespan, but that doesn't mean it's going to die on you anytime soon. FOLKS PLEASE READ ENTIRE REVIEWS AND NOT JUST THE "CONCLUSION" OR "WRAP UP" AT THE END OF REVIEWS. BETTER YET PLEASE STOP JUMPING ON THE BACK ON WHAT OTHER STUPID SDers ARE SPEWING.

Has anyone seen a 830 for $139.99? No..that's what I thought. The cheapest that got was about $150 or $160. Thanks OP!!!!

EDIT: What's really funny is that folks who claim this is a terrible SSD go on to purchase an Intel 330/335/520, Kingston, SanDisk or OCZ SSD. Any Samsung, including the last gen 830, blow any one of those out of the water

840 Pro and 830 are based on MLC, this 840 is based on TLC which has short life span and shows lower performance.

It is a steal. It matches the 830 in all respects performance-wise except it is slightly slower in sequential write speed. It's really nothing that you would actually notice and is still very fast and very well reviewed. It does use flash memory, since it is new there is his no way to tell about longevity, but Samsung has a great rep with their SSDs. They are entirely made by Samsung unlike most other SSDs where parts may be bought and assembled then branded as their own.
830s are very hard to find nowadays and people are actually jacking up prices because of the demand.

I bought multiple 830's for less than $139.99 if you count my ebay bucks $169.99 from the newegg ebay store - $34.00 in ebay bucks = $135.99 each.

Good for you. But, the bottom line is that it hasn't been close to $139 AC or AR. You were just lucky enough to have ebay bucks. My point is that the 840 is no less than a 830. They are both quality and I would take either one. People claim the 840 is garbage, but then recommend a Intel, SanDisk, Kingston, OCZ, etc. SSD. This to me proves they don't know shite

I didn't use any ebay bucks that I had laying around. I was GIVEN $34.00 in ebay bucks for making the purchase. Newegg was doing 20% back in ebay bucks for any purchases that you made from their newegg ebay store. Don't be mad because you missed out. Hopefully you'll get over it eventually.

From Anandtech review: for client work loads (most of us here) this SSD is way faster in read (compared to 830); yes has lower endurance again for most of us - it will last easily 10 years.

At $140 - no brainer, too bad i have two SSDs already.

I hope I'm talking to some kid and not a grown adult. Why would I be upset, I just got the 840 for $4 more But, then again I'm sure you're also happy since everyone knows ignorance is bliss

Tempted to get one to be my dedicated games drive, leaving my 256GB Crucial M4 solely dedicated to OS and programs...even if that's a bit overkill for just those things.
