I'd love some guidance about which pro to buy for my teenage daughter for Xmas. She in 10th grade and been asking for one all year. She wanted the 15" pro but for no real reason. I think the 13" inch is a better option since its more portable especially when she goes off to college. So, question is is the retina display wor it for her purposes or is the non okay? I'm mostly concerned about the hard rive on the retina display as it has 128gb flash rather than 500gb hard. Can someone provide any feedback on the most appropriate one to get? Melissa

She will not need the retina display. Sure, it would be nice, but not for an extra $500. I agree with your assessment, 13" would be great for college and is more portable.

what did the confirmation for those who got this deal look like for in-store pick up?

She would most likely be made fun off by her peers for having a non retina display.

I was able to select in-store but I'm still waiting for my pick up confirmation. it's been over 20mins as they said they would update me on the status, it seems like it's all open-box items now..

I was in the same boat without tracking number. I called Frys.com and waited about 5 minutes for a rep. They were able to get me a tracking number immediately and my Mac should be here today. Phone: 1-408-350-1484

The 13" Retina is thinner than the 13" MacBook Pro because they removed the DVD drive. The weight is about the same, but the 13" still has the DVD burner/drive built in. Personally, I would get her the 13" deal at Fry's and in a few yrs, the 13" Macbook Pro will put in Retina as the standard when she's off to college and it's time for a new laptop. I personally have the 13" Macbook Pro as I need the DVD drive to burn DVD's. Save the $500 and put that toward a 256GB Sandisk SSD and this laptop will fly.

I just turned this 950 laptop into a freaking 1300+ ugh. I'm loving it though. 8gb corsair, 250gb SSD crucial, wireless keyboard, trackpad, a carry case, a keyboard protector, carbon fiber body skin, a Logitech mx wireless mouse, and an external hard drive for time machine.
