Are bikes that cost $150+ really worth the difference for a 6 year old? Are handle bar brakes better?

I had bought a $100+ 20" Schwinn for my son last year and it's the heaviest bike I can imagine (heavy... not in a good way). He rode it 3 times since he got it since it's hard to pedal.
Got him a Huffy now and will sell the Schwinn on Craigslist.

He had a 12" Huffy 3 years ago and his younger brother is using it now. No complaints about the Huffy Brand.

So to answer your question: I think it's not worth to spend $150+ on a bike like this. It's not a forever bike anyway as they outgrow the size in a couple of years.

20in bike is good for age 6-8 or even older depending on the kid's height. I moved my 8yr old to a 24in this year but she is tall.
