I got one earlier in the year and it's not bad with a leather strap. If anyone wants a picture, let me know and I'll repost it.

I'm wearing one now. The watch goes about 30 seconds to a minute behind per day, which is ridiculously annoying and has almost made me late more than once. I'll probably try to send it back to Seiko for a repair/replacement of some kind. Other than that, I like it.

SNK809K2 is small, especially if you have big wrists, but still a very nice watch.

Sorry about hijacking, but things are moving fast, and this might help out some other Seiko fans.

I bought this watch from Jomashop a year or more ago for the same price. It's an okay watch. It looks nice and feels okay. The only cons I find with the watch are that it only holds about a 40-48 hour charge so if you don't wear it for 2 days you have to set the time. This isn't my every day watch so it's a bit of pain to constantly be setting it. Also with the strap being canvas I have to remember to take it off when I shower. With my Swiss Army metal band I'll leave it on sometimes if I'm in a hurry. The strap is also looking a bit faded after only a year and not every day wear. The strap can get a little grimey so I have to wash it every now and again. Not a bad little watch but not fantastic. Not sure it's even worth the $60 IMHO but I don't think you'll find it for less.

It's a 60 dollar automatic, obviously it has to be wound/worn to keep charge. It's canvas, canvas gets dirty, that's the point, but it wears well. This isn't a tuxedo level watch. Anyone wearing a watch in the shower is lazy as shit. It takes 2 seconds to take any watch off. All your points are invalid troll.

Okay - you're right about the strap - it'll get worn and look dirty faster than a solid metal band (a folded metal one - maybe, maybe not). But for the first two points:

It's a mechanical wrist watch. They rarely have a power reserve more than 50 hours. This applies to pretty much all of them, whether it's a $10,000 Rolex, or a $10 fake Rolex. Your complaint there is correct, but it's what separates ALL mechanical from all electric watches. It's worth pointing out for people who don't know anythig about a mechanical watch - there's a lot of surprising stuff about them. But it's not a fair criticism of this watch in particular.

Similarly, you really shouldn't shower with any watch with less than 200 meters of water resistance. The ratings are misleading - they don't account for pressure changes (like from a shower. Or from, say, submerging your wrist in a pool). This watch is a Seiko 5 automatic, so I'm sure it's very solid, so I'm not at all surprised its survived regular showerings - but you should avoid it, and not for the nylon band's sake - it can totally take being submerged just as much as your metal bend. It'll be wet after, but it's nylon - it'll dry.

I think thats actually within spec. Welcome to the "joys" of automatic wristwatches.

There's something beautiful about a good automatic movement, and you won't find better value in an automatic than the Seiko 5. Seiko 5 owners on Watchuseek.com claim phenomenal accuracy. I have a larger version, and it runs about 2 seconds per day fast, which is $10k certified chronometer territory. Of course YMMV.

Guys, I hope you know this is a military field-style watch, not some showy bling type like a Rolex. It's not meant to be so large.

I grabbed the last one on offer directly from Amazon (blue face), and still love it. I wear it fairly often, and not had one scratch on the crystal. It will lose time if you don't wear it daily or use a winder though, but that's true of most all automatics.

It's been sold for less, and likely will again. As for the strap, it's a military field-style watch. They are meant to be used with NATO or ZULU style watch straps (Google it), and it's a fashion to swap bands on these on a fairly regular basis. You'll find many military and regimental color and design straps available, as well as some fashionable ones too.

It looks a LOT nicer IMO, especially when you use a nice Hadley-Roma 22mm brown leather band on it. I'm searching for a NATO band in that width but haven't had any luck locally.

I agree, I think every watch sake of the band should be taken off before showering.

Leather and canvas will be destroyed in the shower, not sure about stainless steel and rubber but I can image that the soap getting in between a stainless steel band cannot be any good.

Damn was gonna grab one but price went up to $65

Leather will totally be destroyed by water. In my experience, canvas and nylon are pretty water resistant - they get wet, but then they dry. Divers often use nylon watchbands (similar to, though not quite the same, as the one with this watch). Search for NATO watchbands if you want to know more.

The issue with this watch's band is it's nylon (which is totally water resistant) with leather accents (which are totally destroyed by water). Odd choice, but I think it was for aesthetic rather than functional reasons.

For you, that is. I do happen to have large wrists myself, and have owned a few other watches in this style from other brands. This style is one of function over form, so a more fashionable large size is not so common. That said, some larger, more-fashionable, variants exist like the one you cite.

I did say that earlier, and would recommend eBay for the standard fare of striped nylon. You can also find ZULU straps, but they don't seem to come in nearly as wide a variety of colors or design.

For me its not a fashion thing its a size thing. It straight up looks petite on my wrist. And I have small wrists for a 6'0 185lb dude. I love the watch, just need a few more MM to look right on my wrist. You do know that girls are wearing big watches now too right. No way a woman is going to have a bigger watch than me!
