I bought the g700 the other day for $60 locally. Haven't had much time to play around with it but have a few observations.
I don't like the "sandpaper" texture on the thumb rest. I may get used to it but I don't prefer it. Not immediately recognized in set point software. Actually, according to Logitech you need to downgrade set point to an older version to be able to customize. Something about its going to be included in the next LGS so they removes it from the latest set point??? oK??? Battery life on my Performance MX has only been a couple of days since day one so unless this gets less than a day I'm OK with connecting the charging wire often. |

If you've been using a mouse with the sensor located toward the center of the mouse rather than towards the front of the mouse, be aware that it may take a bit of time getting use to. You will feel like the mouse isn't responding correctly and it will probably be due to the way you grip and move the mouse. I went from the MX700 to the MX1100 over 3 years ago and still can't use it to quickly and accurately move the pointer and select text. Probably my own deficiencies =P

I had the old Mamba and it had pretty good battery life and I owned it for quite a while, its glidepads never wore down enough for me to replace them either. I have the new Mamba 2012 and it has much better battery life than previously. What's wrong with the Mamba software? Works perfectly fine for me. Also, the great thing about the Mamba is that you can just put it on the charger dock when you walk away from the PC. So much more convenient than reconnecting a stupid wire. This is my first "gaming" mouse, bought it a couple months ago.
Short review. Software works great, no issues. Buttons get reprogrammed with eased based on which exe I fire up (IE, HL2.exe) you can also program profiles into the mouse to directly select. Can be used 100% plugged in as a normal mouse. (Though the wire is a little stiff) Feels great to hold, some may not like the texture (it annoyed me at first, used to it now) With 2k dpi, and full refresh rate, I had 1 bar left on the battery after about ~4 hours of game playing. |

Very tempted to get a spare in case mine dies or malfunctions.
This is a terrific mouse for gaming. Use it when I play games on the big screen from my home theater seats(which is 90% of games), and I can't perceive any lag with the G700 vs my G9 I use at my desk. It also feels better in my hand than the G9. Battery life can drain pretty quickly, but don't think I've ever used it from full to dead in one sitting. Good thing is it charges with the usb wire very quickly. |
