OFFICIAL 60 VIZIO (Walmart or Amazon lightning deal) THREAD - Share your stories
After a considerable amount of stress and hassle, I was able to successfully place an order with Amazon for $20 less than the lightning deal price. Here's my story.
Like many of you, I was camped out on the lightning deal page viewing the countdown. Those who were refreshing the actual item page should know by now that they would not receive an opportunity to participate in the lightning deal, which was a mistake made by many. I anticipated this and made the right choice upon viewing the countdown.
When the countdown hit zero, there was a button that said "add to cart", which I did. However as soon as I did, it went from 0% claimed to 100% claimed in a MOMENT. I received no option to add my name to a list, either, Both were filled immediately.
Now, a unit *did* enter my cart, but not at the lightning deal price. It was still $999.99. It was then that I made my first call to Amazon. I was connected to an Indian Woman with an accent so thick I could *barely* understand her. I explained my situation for half an hour between 5:30 and 6:00, with no success at all. She was strictly by the book, repeating terms and policies, and kept trying to tell me that she could not price match the difference or help me in any way, especially since lightning deals had 14-15 minute time frames. I reminded her I had been on the phone with her in hopes of placing my order within that time frame, but since she was so slow and couldn't grasp my issue, that time passed and put me at a further disadvantage.
Defeated and annoyed, I hung up on her without saying goodbye - which is extremely rude and out of character for me. But to my defense, I was legitimately angry and upset. This was the *only* Black Friday deal I was interested in. Nothing else. No clothes, no games, no other electronics - just this. I resumed a family function for the remainder of the night in damper spirits for the first few hours, but I eventually managed to put it out of my mind and enjoy the remainder of the holiday evening. However I knew I would be calling Amazon again later that night / early in the morning upon getting home.
Amazon call number two - I explain my situation and was told that a price adjustment was not possible. I received an email stating that "lightning deals are rare and brief, and items sell out quickly". This is what angered and frustrated me the most. It NEVER SOLD OUT. The lightning deal began at 5:29 on my end, and units were STILL IN STOCK at 5:29 for $999.99. Nothing ever sold out.
The email asked if I was satisfied and to rate the experience. Instead I copy/pasted the current amazon email I received and sent it back their way, quoting certain sections and replying to each portion of their side of the terms. I was crystal clear that I knew what I was doing, viewed the countdown, saw it go from zero to 100% in an instant, added it to my cart but didn't see the proper price, etc, etc.
I called again, spoke with another agent, and was told I would be contacted within one to two business days by their marketing department, and I would be receiving a $20 credit for my trouble.
This morning I received a final email from Amazon instructing me to place the order for $999.99 and to then contact Amazon for a price adjustment. Not wanting to risk anything, I called again prior to placing the order, and explained my story yet again. I was told that they saw the email on their end stating they would honor the lightning deal price, but they saw nothing about the additional $20 discount I was promised. I stated that each email from Amazon included the name of the associate I dealt with, and that I could provide it as proof. This seems to be enough for them to relent and grant me the additional $20 credit. I asked if I could put the credit towards my current order, and was told yet.
With the agent on the line, I placed the order for $999.99 and was told that they would correct everything on their end and I would be charged $668.00 plus tax, bringing my order to around $730 or so out the door.
What worries me is that despite all of this, I have yet to receive an order confirmation email with my final total from Amazon, however the order is confirmed through Amazon.com for $999.99 plus tax. I'm hoping to God that I'm not charged the full price and find myself having to make another call or refuse a shipment. I will update this thread once the final official email confirmation from Amazon arrived in my in-box. However provided it does, which it should, I was able to get this for $668 plus tax. It was less than pleasant experience, but a successful one...supposedly. UPDATE - I did not receive email confirmation from Amazon, however my order review status on Amazon.com changed to the following -
Item(s) Subtotal: $668.00
Shipping & Handling: $61.50
Super Saver Discount: -$61.50
-----
Total before tax: $729.50 (???)
Estimated tax to be collected: $58.45
CA Electronic Waste Recycling Fee $10.00
-----
Grand Total: $736.45
Reddit fashion TL;DR - Managed to get the Vizio from Amazon for $668 plus tax after a whole hell of a lot of hassle.
Did you wait in line at Walmart or participate in the Amazon lightning deal? Were you successful? Do you have a story to tell? Share them here.
Quick Edit - There's no reason whatsoever for people to give this any thumbs down. I'm sorry if you're bitter if you were unable to score a unit, but I played by the rules and Amazon was pretty damn shady, if you ask me, so I followed up and managed to get the deal. I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw the deal go from 0% claimed to 100% claimed in a heartbeat.
Edit #2 - Wow, guys. Really? 400+ views and NO stories? ...down votes though. Thanks for that, great contribution.
Edit #3 - What the hell is with all the negative ratings? Since when is slickdeals so filled with elitist snobs? This is a thread for people to post STORIES and SHARE THEM pertaining to a very specific (and popular) deal. If you aren't interested in contributing, move along.
