nincow, there are a lot of people that wanted to get in on this deal just for the value that couldn't for whatever reasons. So I can see how some may find this thread useless and even a little "look at me!"-like which explains the thumbs down. IMO, you could've posted this in one of the many vizio 60" threads instead of creating a new thread.

I watched with bated breath as the Amazon countdown made it's way to 0:00. Immediately from zero hour it produced an icon which stated the Wait List was already full. Therefore between the time the deal went live and the deal revealing itself to me Amazon claimed they had sold out. I called to tell them I knew what I was doing, and I would NOT be going quietly into that deep night.
An hour after my first round of frustration with some foreigner at their customer service dept I called again. I got some guy who clearly was on a full ride to devry. I told "Glen" than I was at a Valero station, and that if he didn't respect my right to the Amazon lightning deal that I would smear feces on every single bottle of milk in the store. Now I'm just waiting to hear back. Bail is set at $3,500, but I'm sure that's bs and I can get a better deal. |

Not being able to get in on it isn't a legitimate reason for down votes or thread crapping. This is a specific thread for both success stories or not so successful stories. I don't understand "look at me" mentality because no one actually knows anyone here personally (for the most part, I would presume) and I didn't start this thread to brag. I wanted to see how many others have a similar tale to tell, or perhaps here completely different experiences - both good and bad. |

You're not looking at things from their perspective. (I say "their" because I did get this TV in case you think I'm threadcrapping). And people will threadcrap and downvote everywhere with no rhyme or reason. You shouldn't be surprised. |

You're not thread crapping whatsoever. Your contribution is welcome. It's those who say they feel "this thread is worthless", etc, etc. Those who missed out so they'll downvote anyone who states they got in on it, however they managed to do so. Such behavior continues to surprise me when it makes little to no sense. I can understand feeling jaded and disappointed, but geesh. Downvotes because someone is upset they get it is beyond childish. |

Imagine how you'd feel if after jumping through the hoops, you were still denied and someone came here and posted a story about how they managed to get the TV pretty easily by contacting Amazon CS. The truth: Management at IRS can blame themselves and how they have chaotic and poor management, but God-forbid you, or I, or anybody else in America gets audited and doesn't have their ducks in order and s***-together, your ass is going to court or jail.
Shout out to Congressman Mike Kelly for stating it as it is... Link [realclearpolitics.com] |

It's a matter of perspective then, I suppose, as that would renew my hope and inspire me to try again - and again - and again, if necessary, seeing as it would then be clear that it all comes down to pleading ones case to the right sales agent. Not every Amazon employee has good business sense. Some "just work there" and could care less if a customer is happy. Others, on the other hand, genuinely want to please their customers. If you reach a rep who doesn't give a rats ass about your plight, hang up and try again. The good ones are out there. Over the years I've dealt with Amazon I've spoken to many from both camps. Some of them have absolutely no business working there whatsoever. Others clearly enjoy what they do and they strive for customer satisfaction. After all, that's what customer service essentially is - customer satisfaction. And a satisfied customer is a repeat customer. |

I personally didn't try to get the TV, so I'm pretty impartial. I don't see your comments as bragging, though I do find them being a little naive. As other people have commented in the thread it's not unusual for an item to be 100% claimed, and having the wait list go full within a second or two after the deal starts. I can testify it's happened to me many times, and it really is a crap shoot trying to get in on a popular lighting deal. The experience you had happens thousands of times a day during these holiday lighting deals. You're persistence paid off, and they honored the price. Realistically they can't and wouldn't honor hundreds if not thousand of calls a day requesting a lighting deal price because it sold out to quick, or you weren't able to get on the wait list. |

I agree that camping out for anything is a bit much. Especially for upwards of a week. But some people have a great time doing it amidst a paid holiday, and if they enjoy it, so be it. There's no point judging others if there are those out there who enjoy camping outside a store in hopes of a bargain or three. It comes down to the deal itself. Let's say Best Buy was offering a top tier $2000 Alienware laptop for $100. Damn straight I'd camp a day or two for that mofo. Especially if I didn't have a computer and was in the market for one. But as of now I already have a decent laptop, and I'm not in need of another. On the other hand I've been in the market for a television for my living room, and the vizio deal fit the bill nicely. I'm glad to have been able to order one. Those who tried to get in on the lightning deal and had the same result as I did should contact Amazon CS, share your story, and go from there. Some will get a good sales rep. Some won't. But you can't win if you don't play. |

Point taken, however I feel that Amazon themselves need to implement a system other than going from 0% to 100% in a second. It just makes the customer feel cheated, or dare I say, downright scammed. They should state ahead of time that they have X number of units available, quantities are extremely limited, etc. The B&M ads are certain to mention that all the door buster deals are extremely limited in quantity. I was angry because two of the emails I received from Amazon stated that they couldn't / didn't initially honor the price was because they sold out - which was a blatant lie. They were available for me at 5:29 when the lightning deal began, and have remained available ever since. This wasn't a case of them selling out a large amount of units during a lightning deal. This was a clear case of offering *extremely* limited quantities for their advertised price within an unrealistic time frame. Lightning deals are supposed to last for 15 minutes until the item sells out. Not last for one second followed by seeing "item in stock" immediately after the sale ends. |

Sorry OP about your TV shopping experience. I hope your order goes through with Amazon.
![]() Well, all 56 Vizio TVs were sold out by 6 pm at my local Walmart so I decided to try Target and luckily they still had a few of the Westinghouse TVs left for $349. I love our new TV. Last edited by vc318; 11-23-2012 at 05:23 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Thank you. I'm sorry you couldn't snag a Vizio, but nothing is wrong with a Westinghouse provided you don't get a dud. They tend to fail quickly, or they're fine. Just luck of the draw. The first 42" monitor I ever purchased was a Westinghouse back in 2006 for $1500 back when 1080p was new and novel and most didn't know what it meant. It still works quite well. Enjoy your new tv!
