Of course I have. I use generic ink for the laser printer as well but $5 can easily print over 1000 pages. Besides the print quality of an inkjet is inferior to that of a consumer-line laser printer (except for photos).

G&G is the most reputable generic ink supplier known to these forums, but I've had good luck with several other generics. Never had clogged printheads with any of the Canon printers. HPs on the other hand...

Scanning should be fine but without the ink, how can you copy or receive fax?

If your primary purpose of buying this printer is just scanning, get a good scanner. I saw some reviews saying the scanning is not good with this printer. I do, however, use my old canon inkjet with an empty cartridge for scanning and do all the printing with another printer. At this price, it is fine to get it even for just scanning and sending fax.

It will so do those functions as long as you leave the empty cartridge in the printer. You will get warnings about low ink, but you click "ok" to get passed.

Uh huh. If you say so. Not from my experience, but to each his own. If you need fast printing of text documents and don't need the frills, then Laser is the way to go. Otherwise don't dress up laser printers as being superior in quality

lol i think the other question is, would it still print black and white if you run out of the other colors or if any of them are empty?

Quite obvious you cannot copy without ink--I was referring to the options that apply. Being a smartass would have gotten me nowhere. You can in fact fax without ink--you just won't get any confirmation pages. You can still print out past fax reports later.

The answer to your question is yes. Print grayscale, and you'll have no problems in your given scenario. Otherwise non-blacks will not print when you do color.

I went to FRY'S in Irving,TX yesterday and boubht this printer. here is the total deal: With any computer/tablet/monitor combined with Canon PIXMA MX892 purchase they are giving a $50 mail-in-rebate for this printer.

My friend bought a Lenovo laptop for $190+ $60 Canon PIXMA MX892-$50 rebate=$200
So I checked the rebate form asked them whther they consider this rebate for ANY tablet purchase and they said YES. So I purchased a $44 cheap Tablet which was on their black friday deals.
$45+60-50=$55 for a tablet and a printer.

I bought this printer. Though I having to order first and think later!

Didn't move fast enough yesterday. In for one today. One less present hubby has to buy for me.
