where does this stack up vs the dell i5 3rd gen i got from dell for $400 (now 450?)

I have been trying to find an entry level gaming computer for my son and it has been hard to find truly SDs.
So this one looks good asuming you replace the GPU.

I haven't looked at Dell Outlet much today as there stock is about gone, perhaps as they ready for CyberMonday, but Alienwares are typically overpriced and the XPS's seem ok, but Inspiron's seem to not be what would be best for my kid.

If you are looking for a entry level gaming rig I wouldn't buy either of those. The 8 core would be a waste of money as it is not really meant for gaming, IMO it is better with video editing and rendering. I would highly reccomend an A8 setup to crossfire with a mid-range AMD. I personally use this and it will play Battle Field 3 in full HD at 50 FPS.

Will the 300w Power Supply be enough for this PC? Does it matter what you do on a PC as far as the 300w goes? If I don't do gaming, is it ok to use the power supply that comes with it?

Anything else that you would buy extra or replace on this desktop if you're not a gamer?

this is overkill if you are not a gamer. but if you really want it then the 300w is fine

Why do you think it's overkill? I just want a top notch fast PC with lots of Ram and HDD and other features that i can use for many years. I think the Graphics card issue is more for Gamers, but other than that, the specs are great and the deal is great. I don't think this desktop is overkill for non-gamers at all. There' are plenty of people out there that are inbetween basic internet/email users and hardcore gamers and this would be a great deal for them.

I think as is the system is ok its entry level not bad by any means but if you look at the chart on cpu benchmarks the i5 beats it by a wide margin. I think the price is good and like I said its solid system not so much for gaming however it could be set up for that if you want to tinker with it.
