I just spent 3 hours last night researching the best budget 2.1 speakers.
My conclusions:
1. Klipsch Promedia 2.1: Best clarity on midrange and highs
2. Logitech z623: Most power, least expensive msrp
3. Creative Gigaworks T3: Smallest size.

Since I want to listen to music as well, Klipsch is the obvious choice.

heads up.. These were still full price in store. At least for me in Garland, TX. You will need to price match to the website.

wow, thats odd there is no power switch. why would they think its practical to power the idle amp at all times?

also, with a setup like that on a 'green' switch, that means you cant hear audio when your monitor is off? what do you do when you want to play music but you want your monitor off? you have to find a new outlet?

Klipsch doesn't want people to off these speakers. I contacted them before purchasing these speakers. They said when your computer shuts down, these speakers go into idle mode. Almost draws zero power.
Also, you can hear audio when your monitor is turned off.

I just bought this one, and will be returning my Bose Companion 5 that I got on black friday.. Didn't even open that box.

Checking my order online, it says it is already ready for pick up. Although I haven't got my order confirmation email nor the pick up email yet.

Now, what's taking the confirmation email so long?

Would these be better than the pair of HT Pioneers speakers that went on sale for $40 and a cheap stereo receiver? I haven't used PC speakers for awhile.

bought these about 10 years ago for $300 from Best Buy, one of the best speakers I've ever heard, still use them to this day!

GREAT sound, bass sounds smooth and has a lot of room on the volume knob, definitely able to disturb any neighbors below your apartment

I bought a pair of these I think 9-10 years ago, only $50 (open box). I've never had any problem with them and they still sound amazing. Highly Reccomended, way better than any other computer speakers I have heard.

hmmm, just read above about someone saying they have been re-designed and are not the same quality. Mine have a power switch behind the subwoofer, which supposedly the new models do not have, and they say the sub weighs half of what they used to, so it may not be worth it after all.

Got one.

Just wondering how do these compare to the Logitech z2300? That's what I have been using for years.
