The new markdown schedule was suppose to start on 05/01, but it was postponed a week and will start on Monday. They'll pull the product the day before but won't mark down until early next day. They'll mark the product down throughout the day. Once early in the morning, then at 10am, then at 2pm and final markdown at 6pm. You're correct that they can't manually override the clearance prices because it's set by the corporate headquarters.

I was told that it's a way to show the new prospective "buyers" that they are being proactive about reducing the expired "waste" products at the end of each day.

I'm truely going to miss all the daily markdowns. I have gotten all kinds of meat at 75% along with a lot of other food at 75%. I have enjoyed eating healthy for a fraction of the price for the past 7 months. Smilie

Correction...final markdown is not until after 7pm. The scanners won't even let them mark stuff down lower until after 7pm.
Nice info! I'll have to see if I notice anything different with their clearance markdowns. Thanks!

It would be nice the Big 3 plus Staters do the same. Mark-down products.

Some Vons/Pavilions does for Meat

Some Vons/Pavilions does for Meat
Ralphs marks down bakery 50% or more (this has become very popular since the downturn in the economy) and recently started produce as well (and they place it next to the marked down bakery items). They've also recently started marking down frozen in a dedicated area next to ice (I've found this in all the locations I've visited recently). Ralphs has always had an area for mark downs on canned and packaged goods. Ralphs marks down some deli items and some meat. For meat, you'll have to look for a small area in the meat case. Deli items get placed where the item is normally sold.

Vons/Pavilions marks down canned goods and packaged items in a dedicated area. I see marked down stickers on some deli and meat items.

Albertsons marks down canned goods and packaged items in a dedicated area. They do meat and deli with discount stickers in the same place the item would normally be. They use to do bakery but I haven't seen that in quite some time.

At my inconsistent FnE, that translates to a random time between 7:01pm and never :|

The markdowns were a loss leader to get me in, and I'd do my other shopping there. Now, I just go somewhere else less annoying.

I thought I would share this here since Armstrong Garden Centers are a SoCal chain:

Complimentary Armstrong-Grown Color Pack
Limit one per Armstrong Advantage member (you can sign up for free membership at checkout)
Print or show on your smartphone:
http://www.armstronggarden.com/wp...r-Pack.pdf
You can also get to the coupon by using the store locator [armstronggarden.com] and clicking on the webpage for your local store.

The Anaheim Hills store has many 6-packs of flowering annual plants that qualified...the Cosmos were especially pretty and would be nice to pot up for a Mother's Day gift.

Enjoy!

Ralphs does not accept expired coupons. Period. That's been the policy for many years.

You might want to just try it anyway, if you are buying something at Ralph's to begin with. Or you might try it at Albertson's. I have used an expired catalina several times at Albertson's and they have let it go through. Good luck!
