For the better part of a month that registration process requires a key. I remembered hearing about it when the promotion first started and how it was possible for anyone to get the $15 upgrade. I didn't think much of it until I actually got a new laptop with windows 8 basic and wanted windows 8 pro. Seems they added a verification step. You must have a windows 7 key that was activated during the appropriate time period. But if you can kindly beat me over the head, maybe when I wake up, it will have gone back to the way it was. Big Grin
Check the attachment. I just submitted again, but no where asked me a key. The first page is the only page you need to enter your and the computer info. The second page is a verification of a successful registration

[update] Ok folks, I used my same info but a different email for the second registration. It was only to capture the screen shots to help you understand better. Immediately, I received another promo code. It seems that you can register as many as you can and get the promo codes as many as you can as long as you have more computers. Funny and Great

I took a screenshot of the page that stops me. I fill out the same screen as your screenshot 1 and then it takes me to this.

What I am thinking is that it depends on what Windows you use when registering. I used Windows 7 computer when registering. I assume that you used the Windows 8. The registration page may automatically collect the Windows version.

In case, it accepts Windows 8 key as well, try this web to find your product key and enter it

Update on my ram situation.

I tried out the Corsair Vengeance and it was recognized right away. Seems to be working fine. After my Windows Experience Index updated though, I only went from 4.6 to 4.7. I'm not sure why that is.

As long as the ram is working and being used, I guess I shouldn't worry about it though.

Thanks to those who ran the crucial scans.

I sucessfully receied the $15 promotion code for upgrade in email but when I went to upgrade it forced me to run the "Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant". When I run it I get an error stating that "Windows 8 isn't available for download" because "Sorry, Windows 8 isn't available for download in the region/country you're in."

BTW I am in the USA. Maybe microsoft hates California?

So did you run Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant in Windows 7, pay your $15 and then update Asus Vivobook to Windows 8 Pro with your new key? Anyone?

Thanks

I heard you could get around that by running the upgrade adviser in compatibility mode for XP sp3. Anyway, I've long already tried my windows 8 key retrieved via belarc advisor and tried my win 7 key from a desktop I built 2 years ago. I've given up on it, but if anyone has a coupon code they don't want for a $15 upgrade, please PM me.

You guys try 'em out yet? Anything to note? Touchscreen work just fine? Is there an advantage of having the Intel drivers installed instead of the Asus ones?...

I was going to try them out, but after running the intel driver update utility..thing, it noted that my video driver was unique to the manufacturer and that installing the generic intel driver could potentially cause some problems.

I decided that I didn't want to risk any issues, so I just kept with whatever driver ASUS has provided. It looks like it is the latest one that ASUS has offered, so I will trust them with updating anything that needs updating.

I'm sure that the latest intel driver would work fine, though. I just don't feel like putting in the extra effort for the possibility of problems, and for changes that I won't likely notice - especially when I'm already happy with the way everything is running.
