Acer Iconia W510-1674 Windows 8 intel Atom tablet 32gb $399 ( regular $499) @ Microsoft store

You can argue that 32gb is tiny (it is), but this is as cheap as it get if you are looking for a win8 tablet that ISN'T arm-based to play with, I have been stalking forever and can't get something cheaper than this.

Note that there is microSD card slot, so you can put some files there too. (Note that win8 modern apps won't install there though.)

Been waiting forever to find a cheap intel-based win8 to play with. At $400 and have a full non-gimped OS on a tablet, sounds good to me!

is it FULL Windows 8 or just the watered down RT

BTW its still an Atom so only 2gb ram and it will be noticeably slow [cpubenchmark.net]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think RT version only run on ARM CPU.

You are correct. RT is for ARM devices. This has an Atom, so runs full Win8. A full Win8 tablet for $400 is mighty tempting.

It's not RT. It's a full tablet.

Yes it'll be slower. A dual-core atom. Good enough for stuff like browsing the web, watching hulu / Netflix, watch some downloaded movies, etc. Also very long battery. I read a lot of the reviews on the Samsung equivalent on Amazon/newegg and everyone seems pleasantly surprised at the performance. (Both intel atom-based, so should be same performance here.) Just don't multitask heavily on it. If you stick to the modern windows 8 UI and don't use desktop too often, the OS should be smart enough with resource management to keep everything snappy even with 2gb ram (Win8 knows how to save-state and shutdown apps when mem is running low).

But yea, no playing battlefield 3 on this I'm afraid.

If only this thing comes with an active digitizer.

I wonder if keyboard dock can be purchased separably and how much, looks like you can get the keyboard with 64GB version as a bundle for $750 MSRP

On newegg, 64gb w / wo keyboard is like $150 diff, so it probably means keyboard is worth more than $150 standalone.

I'm sure Acer will see them as accessories later on though for separate purchase.
