Wow that review is brutal, thanks you saved me 400 bucks to spend elsewhere

I don't think that people, or the reviewers are keeping in mind a couple of things. I am using an i5 ultrabook that is really quiet BUT it does have a FAN. Also, it weighs more than 2x more than this tablet. While it has great battery life, it is NOT as good as the supposed 8-9 hrs of this tab. I know the atom was not very good when it was initially released it is obvious that they are gearing them now towards tablets, and for this to get the battery life it does for the weight it has, it is promising that we will see a ton more solid offerings utilizing the Intel Atom, with performance/efficiency getting better over time.

This is obviously a fanless tablet with OK performance. If you were to stuff an ULV i3/i5/i7 it would have to be a special design because they all run with fans. This would make it heavier, have less battery life, etc. This is pretty sweet for the price. The reviews seem to hate the dock more than the tablet!

Just read review....and watched video review which gave more clarification on certan items...more nitpicking than anything else...also pre-production model, not final review. Forget keyboard for a moment, which isnt even included in this sale....as a tablet (which is what most people will be buying it for) it didnt do so bad.

Still for the money sounds lile a good deal nonetheless. Nitpicky? Yes...brutal?....no.

Another interesting point is that this has the same hardware as the $649 Samsung ATIV tab with the exception of 64gb storage.

this is so tempting. been looking at older samsung series 7 slates with 128gb ssd, i5, 4gb of ram used for $650, I'd put win8 on of course. i don't know which to choose. these atom tablets run metro apps well, but once you start using desktop stuff I hear it slows down.

btw, in the specs on MS store it doesn't list it having hdmi, but it does. if the W700 was on sale for $650 i'd be all over it.

I've used the series 7 slate and it's pretty awesome, assuming you don't mind the weight (2 lbs vs 1.4 lbs), active fan, and lower battery (5 hrs vs 9 hrs I'd guess).

The most brutal part of the review is the keyboard that isn't included. Seems like a no-frill win8 tablet at bottle-barrel price, which is exactly what I want.

Excelent deal for a Windows 8 tablet.
The performance is good and it looks better than any android tablets.

Yeah, it's a bummer that it doesn't come with the keyboard. Does anyone know that it comes with pre-installed Office 13 like the Surface?

It's slow only in desktop mode. Metro style apps fly on that hardware and there are already thousands of quality apps in the store, many of them free.

This is a great option if you want *full Windows* (not limited RT) on a tablet with complete compatibility with all your existing windows apps plus new windows 8 metro UI apps--also it runs on Clover trail/newer intel processors which will give good power use/battery life vs other/much more expensive windows 8 tablets that run on traditional intel I5 processor/etc. May not be as powerful as these other processors, but it is great for doing light work, portable, long battery life.

while its a great price the Atom (and EVERY Atom) is limited to 2gb Ram
that is why if it says Atom i stay away
i could live with it being slow
but i cannot live with Win 8 and 2gb of Ram

I'm still staying away from Atom until next year. The Atom in this is essentially the same in CPU performance as the first Atom released, which was unbearably slow.
