The only difference between T4i and 60D are the features. T4i is more geared towards video and beginners in general (due to its touchscreen feature), while the 60D is more towards professional shooting. But the 60D is two years old and is due for an upgrade, while the T4i is pretty new. It's all a matter of preference. But I bought the T4i because I wanted the 18-135mm STM lens. If you want me image quality, save your money to spend on better lens =) |

t3i ($650 deal) vs t4i (this deal) : Need the extra range of 18-135. I do foresee having to switch between wide end (18 inch) and long end (135) a lot in situations like shooting closeup of kids at play Vs the big picture. zooming in on an animal and back out for family pictures at zoo : Need touch screen after using my tablets and smartphone : will definitely use the new fangled features (from camera reviewers) to minimize post processing. My PS experience says that I hardly do any post-processing. i.e. In-camera HDR, better low-light performance : hoping that STM lens focusses faster than non-STM kit lens of t3i even within 18-55 range. Also know that faster shutter speed (3.6 Vs 5) will help capture the best shot : may find continuous video AF on t4i useful, but that's not a factor This is $300 worth in my case. YMMV. I also live near Fry's to 60D is tempting (+ tax for me though) .. I already passed on the canon refurb price of $779 + tax during BF, so not changing my mind. 60D+18-$135 ($880 in CA fry's) vs t4i (this deal) : As a beginner, not sure if I need better body construction, LCD, weather-sealing of 60D. I'd rather go with smaller, lighter t4i. Extra heft may make the difference when I decide to pick up a camera Vs sticking to shooting with my smart phone. : Better lens reviews for 18-135 STM Vs non-STM with 60D : 2 yr Newer camera with digit 5. Hopefully there will be some improvements under the hood. And lesser chance of buyer remorse as and when 60D successor comes out (should be very soon) : No 55-250 for $63. Add $200-$225 online price of 55-250, the 60D becomes $100 costlier than this. Last edited by l9o; 11-26-2012 at 01:34 PM.. |

The 18-135mm STM lens is a better lens, both for image quality and video, but you won't really get the video benefits unless you have a T4i. I think you'll be happy sticking with what you have though. The 60D is a solid buy. I personally prefer the features of the 60D over the T4i, but that might just be because I haven't really taken advantage of the video capabilities of the T4i. |

Those two differences you stated (slightly more color depth and slightly less noise at higher ISO) shouldn't result in a noticeable change in image quality, especially since these two cameras have the same sensor. But perhaps you have better eyes than I do, which is probably the case. The T4i usually comes out cheaper than the 60D, and with better lens, so that's why I went for it. Normally you can throw in a 40mm or 50mm f/1.8 with the extra bucks that you save, which definitely improves image quality. But bighamsterneck stated that he was able to get the 60D for a pretty good price, so I suggested that he keep it =) Last edited by eViLNeWBiE06; 11-26-2012 at 01:35 PM.. At 18mm can I take semi-macro close up shots? I've got a canon powershot that goes to 5mm and I was wondering if 18 will work or do I need another lens.
And isn't there something about this using the same sensor as the t2i? Sorry but I've used compacts for years so I don't know |
